Although I haven't actually had a chance to use this to polish my car yet I have taken time to check it out thoroughly and it is pretty impressive. The construction reminds me of a 6" side grinder like those commonly used in the welding industry. It is a heavy duty polisher/sander with a powerful motor and it appears to be built like a TANK! I mounted the 6" disk on the polisher and attached a 6" fuzzy buffer to the disk and plugged the unit in. When I turned on the power switch the fuzzy buffer began to rotate extremely slowly at speed 1 so I edged it up to about 3 and it started spinning at a moderate speed. The speed increased as I edged it up closer to the maximum speed of 7. During this process I detected that the buffer and disk did not appear to be balanced properly and I could feel a definite vibration throughout the polisher. i slowed it back down to 2 and placed my hand against the buffer which immediately stopped rotating so I moved it to 3 and placed my hand against the buffer again. That's when it dawned on me that this is actually a Random Orbital Polisher/Sander which is not mentioned at all in the listing for some reason. There are both 5" and 6" disks, pads and polishing bonnets of several types and a small stack of 6" sanding disks as well as a wrench to tighten/loosen the disk, a pair of replacement motor brushes and a handle which will screw into either side of the polisher for better handling and control. The only complaint I have is that the speed control is basically useless until it is set to 3 since any setting lower than that will not even spin the buffer when it is in contact with the surface to be buffed so this is essentially only a 5 speed polisher (3,4,5,6,7). Other than that it is a great tool which is a welcome addition to my car care supplies. Initially, I thought that the $86 price tag was a bit high but after receiving it and realizing it was a Random Orbital Polisher and checking it out thoroughly I'm convinced that it is worth the asking price. I would have given this a 5 star review but the speed control issue caused it to lose 1 star. It's still a great deal though!

I'm not an expert auto detailer or mechanic, but I have a mechanic friend who told me that this would be helpful for me in washing and polishing my car. I live in a condo complex, and have assigned parking. Well, as it turns out, MY space is under a large tree that drips something on anything underneath it at certain times of the year! The something that the tree drips is probably sap, but it's really difficult to remove. My friend showed me how to use this buffer/polisher to remove the tree stuff and follow that up with a good polish. I have to tell you, this was the way to go! It's one whole HECKUVA lot better than trying to do all that by hand. And, needless to say, takes one HECKUVA lot less time! Because of my friend's kind assistance with my car, I'll lend this buffer/polisher to him if he needs one, and ask him for his input as to how it works with its other capabilities. At this point, if you need to buff out tree gunk, or polish your car, this is the tool for you! Very much recommended!

It is a very impressive package. I was only looking for a way to buff out some scratches. It looks like I received plenty of fabric bonnets for that. I also received two sanding disks and sandpaper to take on other tasks. There are lots of accessories. OK, what do I do now? The six page "Polisher Instruction" manual devotes a page and a half to general shop best practices (keep the area clear and such). and a half page to safety specific to the polishing machine. Then come the operating instructions. "Install the polishing disc" "Stick the polishing disc tightly on the chassis of the polishing machine. Apply polishing wax..." Wait ... what's the polishing disc? There are two sanding discs, but nothing that says "polishing disc." Do you mean use one of the sanding discs? How do you stick it tightly on the chassis? I see a metal bar in the center of the underside of the sanding disc, as if it were to go into a drill. There is a hole in the polishing machine, that looks as though it will spin. The metal bar is too big for the hole. I don't get it. The spanner that's included must play a role somehow. There are two small metal parts with springs, which probably play an important role in the "replace the brush in time" instruction. "When the brush is worn out and cannot be used, it must be replaced in time, otherwise it will cause poor contact between the brush and the commutator, cause ring fire, burn the commutator, and burn the armature in serious cases." Where is this brush located? What would a worn-out brush look like? I'm pretty impressed with all the hardware you get, but at the moment it's just hardware. "Suitable for novice operators?" Edit: For answers to questions like these, find a similar product and see what support it has. For example, this seems very similar to the TORQX Dual Action Polisher. The Chemical Guys have a video on YouTube with polisher replacement head installation instructions. From it, I learned that the protrusion under the disk was a rubber cap over the threads that go into the polishing machine. With the caps removed, it all makes sense.
