  • OMG! This is the funnest RC Airplane I've ever owned. Great for beginners!
I am getting back into RC Airplanes and haven't flown since I was a teenager. I'm retired now. That should give you an idea of how long I've been away. I was excited to hear about this new technology that stabilizes the planes. It's called SAFE. SAFE is really amazing. It keeps the plane stable in the attitude and direction you want to fly. It doesn't fly the airplane. So it's not foolproof. As long as you have a general idea of how an airplane works and you have a good open area, you're going to be pleasantly surprised how easy this airplane is to fly. SAFE has 3 levels, Easy, Advanced, and Off. Off being you're on you're on your own, no stabilization. What is cool about SAFE is that it doesn't take anything away from the flying experience. I was surprised how quickly the muscle memory comes back from flying these models but even the best pilot can become disoriented, especially if you get the airplane directly overhead. The cool thing is if you let go of the controls, the plane will simply level out and continue to fly in the direction it was going. This is awesome if you lose track of it's orientation, especially at a distance. If you have a large open area, you literally don't have to have any experience to get started. Now the plane itself: - High quality, and super durable - Super Stable (SAFE enabled) - Super easy to fly, very forgiving and predictable - Slow and easy landings (big floaty wings) - Big wheels for bouncy but soft landings - Takes off in about 10 ft - Looks amazing out of the box! Con's: - The wing stays attached. It can be removed but the wing struts prevent it from being like a lot of RC Planes where the wing pops on and off. Overall. Amazing airplane! Crazy fun for anyone. Don't hesitate. This airplane is super fun for the experienced or novice pilot. It's also doable for the new pilots if you have enough space. ... show more

  • Awesome Trainer!
I chose this Carbon Cub as my reentry back into the hobby after a 12 year break from previously flying nitro planes. I started out in easy mode and quickly found myself in intermediate mode with the higher rates applied. The amount of confidence that this plane builds within you is just the sheer win in my book. My nervousness quickly disappeared as I got more and more comfortable with flying it and doing pattern work with touch and goes. If you are a beginner or a returning RC pilot then this is a great plane to ease you into/back into the hobby. Or if you're seasoned then this is a good "in between charges" daily driver. Assembly is straight forward with the only tools needed is a small Philips screwdriver. The transmitter is a basic Spectrum radio but it is quality and you are able to add flaps if you wanted to. Telemetry is also built in but you must run the Spektrum batteries in order for it to work. (I didn't use Spektrum so they aren't a must but it's a nice feature) Grab this plane you won't be disappointed! ... show more

  • Love this plane and it flies perfectly
I bought this plane as my first giant-scale rc plane. It took me 15 minutes to get it together out of the box. I flew it for a few weeks until I got too comfortable and crashed it. It is great that they have a website where you can buy all of the parts for replacement. The styrofoam eventually started to wrinkle and chip due to picking it up, but I am happy with it. The downsides are the controller, the controller is a really basic Spektrum DSX, and it is ok to start flying with, but once you add the flaps to the plane, it isn't really suited for this plane anymore. The flap switch came undone mid-flight, and I was stuck with the flaps at full, which isn't a problem when landing but was a big problem trying to get the plane lined up. I put some lock tight on the switch threads so that it will not unscrew again. Overall, I like the plane and will buy another from Horizon Hobby. ... show more

  • Easy to learn on
I'm new to the model aircraft hobby and this was a great plane to start on and learn the ropes. It gave me the confidence with no crashes to venture to other aircraft. The functions are pretty straightforward and easy to use for flight operation. It's not heavy so it glides lovely for the weight and model type! ... show more

  • Better Choices
As a Trainer it is not as friendly as Aeroscout. Very Bouncy with the balloon tires.

  • Durable and fun
My adult son is having a great time with this airplane that is actually quite durable. Despite several rough landings, it is still going strong and provides much enjoyment.

  • Second Plane lost
I had problems with the first plane crashed on takeoff after losing control. Horizon was kind enough to replace it. The second I have flown several times, today was at the field, had many take offs and landings, and some loops and rolls. After the first battery made sure everything was tight, has some loose screws. ON the third battery this pane went nuts. I made no adjustments took off and veered right hard, I corrected with left and would not return, kept going, and the minute I let off of the left Aileron and Rudder it bank hard right. It continued to fly away, cut back throttle, threw into AS3X mode, couldn't correct, same issue, plane was still flying away, trying hard to correct hit safe mode and panic. It could not correct took it into a bean field somewhere in the middle never could find it. Lost forever. This is the second issue with the same type of plane. I am done, and really pissed at Horizon for selling a POS. Just make the damn thing fly. ... show more
