Long drill bit is required to drill through structures to guide or position connecting holes etc. For example, when I install air duct through wall, I need to cut holes on both sides of the wall, a long bit is needed to position the holes perfectly. This is a very good quality drill bit and it drills a perfect hole for the pilot of a hole saw. The bit seems to be very well built and long lasting. High quality drill bits, I got a pair of 5/16th and they are a foot long. They have great bite and move material really well. Nice and sharp. They will work in any normal size drill . It came inside if a reusable tube that is pretty convenient as well.
