    • Cheap replacement for all the small drills you break
Like most of us, it's always the small drills that break the easiest. One little goof with the drill press and plink, there's a couple of bucks you'll never get back. What I like about this drill bit set is that they include a large number of duplicate small bits. I replaced the missing ones earlier broken in my drill index and I imagine I'll get a few years of a full index before I have to buy another set. I went into this purchase fully knowing that considering the country of origin (China) the quality would be suspect. But they appear adequate - I was drilling some steel yesterday and no problems. Best advice: use a drill press if you can, always use a drop of cutting oil on the bit as you drill into metal, use a relatively slow speed, and be sure what you're drilling is firmly fixed in place; the smallest movement will snap the drill. For wood or plastic these work fine, for metal just be gentle. ... show more

    • NOT for metal.
These are alright for wood and plastics but are useless for metal. It took three of these bits to drill thru 1/8" mild steal. They dull really fast. I will pay a higher price in the future for a better grade drill bit.

When the package arrived the plastic case was open and drill bits were everywhere! Took this photo half way thru the organization process, it took me about 30 minutes in total to sort all the sizes back out. I'm not sure if I have all of the smallest drill bits since I found about two dozen drill bits loose in the cardboard box it shipped in and the box corners didn't have tape to keep small things from falling out during shipping. On the upside, this is a really good price for the set. The quality isn't Kobalt but for something cheap to let students use freely they work adequately. I would not use these on steel (they shatter and bend very easily) but they function in wood, plastic or aluminum fine. If the company fixes their packaging problem I'd definitely rate this a 4 star set, until then 3 stars for the extra labor, risk of damage to the drills, and possible lost drill bits. ... show more
