I got bc I rem this brand from years gone by, they changed hands quite a bit, it was slightly better flavor and darker than I expected but still run the mill. I used my burr grinder and did expresso grind and a med grind, both were about the same, with the espresso grind slightly better imo. Hard to find real beans and for affordable these days. I'm glad I tried this one at around $6 a pound it was worth a try and to think back on this old brand. If you like dark roast and on a budget give this 1 a try. ... show more

I HATE giving less than 5-stars, especially when it's due to me. The company worked very hard to create a QUALITY product, which this is! I simply think it tastes like crap. Now, wait. Does it for you? Most reviewers like it so, let me explain what I'm tasting and why I hate it, and you see if you'd agree or, if you'd actually like if for the reasons given. First off, the beans are high-grade, beautiful, well oily and the package is full and thoughtfully packed. You can tell the company meant for this to be high ended. After that, I opened it. What the funk is that smell? I don't like it. It smells super strong, earthy like a truffle, too rich and a bit too much like Ethiopian blends, which I hate. So, there was no aroma bonus for me. If you like Sumatra, you'll probably love this. I equate the odor to "burnt". The taste: Over-cooked, grainy, like Starbuck's NASTY coffee, without the soothing junk they put in their swirl. If you prefer a blend which will put hair on your chest, this is it. I don't. I LOVE KONA, and this is as far from Kona as coffee can get without being Tea. I hope to find a very smooth but strong blend someday but for me, right now, pure Kona is all there is. ... show more
