I follow Izzy Swan on FB & YT. I have large tree banches and trunks that I cut into slabs with a chain saw for live-edge tables. I used a single block and tackle rig to pull the sled portion of a DIY saw mill rig (designed & demod by Izzy Swan on YT), a step up from an Alaskan Saw Mill, moved to a two-fold pulley system and then to this boat winch It has a locking gear for both pay-in and pay-out actions. Mounts easily with 3 bolts to a flat plate. Whatever situatyion you wish to use it for, be dure that the load is at or below the ratged load of the winch AND that the mounting plate and struts can support the working weight load.

Installing it is not so easy because the install holes are where the spool is. The wire perhaps is what it is but it's tense and flipping the release switch it uncoils and it's hard to put back. This is not nice like I remembered on my grandpa's boat winch. I only bought it to put in my attic as a way that I could lift up suitcases and heavy things alone, so it suffices but to be honest for the difficulty it is I'd probably struggle pushing them up the ladder by hand. I don't recall the price if it's cheap and perhaps for other applications it would be better.

The ratchet, gear, and winch are all misaligned and led to the winch slipping. The metal for the gear is pretty soft and after one use I can see the teeth have damage.

600lbs is not really what it can handle. Frame bent easily while cranking light load. More like a 250 lb
