My grandson is beginning to show an interest in art and drawing is one of the first things he has started to do. He draws but uses markers and crayons that young children use. This graphite "sketch" set is just the thing to make him feel like a serious artist with grown up supplies as he enters middle school where are classes get more serious. This set has everything he needs to get started, even comes with its own sketch book. As shown in the picture, it also comes in a nice zippered case where there is a place for everything he needs. I am sure it won't stay so neat for long, but I think he is going to b e impressed by the professional way it looks when he opens this as a gift. This is a great drawing set and it includes everything you need! From paper, to pencils, charcoal, to erasers, blending tools and even a manikin! There is a sandpaper block for quick sharpening and just about anything else you can think of that you may need. I ordered the 70 piece set and it was under $23! This is the most extensive drawing and sketching set that I’ve ever had. And I love that it’s all in one sturdy case with a place for everything. I’m definitely a type A so the organization of this set alone makes me thrilled. It’s literally got everything you need to draw anything. I mostly just lightly sketch flowers that I go back and paint with watercolor but I could see this broadening my horizons into more detailed drawings. The best part is I can zip it up and put it in my car so I can sketch my surroundings when I’m out and about. I’ve tested all the pencils and they are nice quality. The heavier leads are large and will allow deep swaths of graduated shading. The harder leads are crisp and produce excellent thin lines. I haven’t used the charcoals yet but they all arrived unbroken and in pristine condition. The included sketchbook has 68lb paper so it’s just a hair thicker than my Strathmore sketchbook. I was pleased that it was a nice weight. The only thing I noticed that isn’t perfect is the fact that the human models feet have been haphazardly glued onto the ankles. This isn’t a big deal to me considering the fact that this will mostly be used for plein air sketching or traveling. If I want a sturdier studio wooden model I can purchase one for not much money. All in all I think this would be an excellent gift for anyone pre-teen through adult that is interested in growing their drawing skills. It allows you to branch out and try all the mediums without spending a fortune at the art store. I definitely recommend this set! ... show more

It's been probably 20 years or so now since I did graphite drawings professionally. Then I switched to digital painting as a hobby. So it's been quite some time and I'm very out of practice. When I saw this kit, I thought it might be nice to pick it back up a little bit here and there. The zip carry case makes it very portable. It literally has every single thing you need whether you're just starting out or a long time professional and want something to toss in the car. In fact, there are some things in this kit that I never had in my own self-built kit. And at this price point, there's just no reason not to get it. To make this quick little drawing of my cat, Lyra, I didn't use but a fraction of the tools, but what I did use was more than sufficient. My only nit-pick is I prefer bristol to draw on, so the paper in the kit is a bit toothy for my taste, but I can hardly complain, really. Most kits don't come with any paper at all.
