I've always loved Hifiman headphones; I love planar speakers (I have Magnepans), and Hifiman's planar headphones have always sounded so good to me. These are very revealing headphones, meaning that they won't make a poor recording sound any better than it does; but for well recorded music, the HE1000se are the best headphones I've ever tried. I use them with the Pass headphone amp, and it's a great combination. The cable that ships with the headphones isn't bad, much better than earlier stock Hifiman cables I've had, but I'll probably still get an aftermarket cable at some point. ... show more

The HE1000SE or HEKSE for shorts is hifiman's most detailed headphone. In terms of sonic characteristics is sits between the Susvara and a HD800s. It is not quite as detailed as the 800s but more detailed than the susvara. It has tremendous detailed sub bass. It has super fine high detail with incredible tall and wide soundstage beating the hd800s and susvara and abyss 1266. it is a bit grainier than the 1266 original but it is a more pleasing laid back sound. As owner of Verite, 800s, Audeze LCD-X and after much research I decided on these. I believe of the flagships they are the best.     • This is a superlatively performing headphone.
I use several top of the line headphones, and some are even more expensive than this Hifiman He-1000se, and yet I can say that technically and sonically, this is one of the very best I have heard, for the kinds of music I listen to, but I dare say that this would be fantastic with most genres too. I typically don't write any reviews, but I noticed that someone has given this great sounding headphone a 1-star rating without even bothering to write a review to say why. With the way this Amazon review system works, this person could be even reacting to the price tag, or simply giving the headphones a 1-star rating out of spite, most likely, without having even owned or heard the unit itself. In my view, a rating like that should not be deemed legitimate until the one who posted it can offer at least some cogent explanation for it that is backed by real world first-hand experience with the unit. If it is not obvious already, I personally happen to find that 1-star rating to be the most unjust rating of any headphone I have seen, which is why I am adding my own 5-star rating to support this headphones. I wish Amazon would remove that rating, unless the poster is a valid user who can back up their one-star rating with some solid evidence, which they have not had the decency to do. If you're thinking of picking one up to audition, do not hesitate to do so, and let your own ears be your guide. These things typically come with a 30-day return policy, so you can return it if it is not your cup of tea. I found the HE1000 SE to be exception headphones, great for Classical, Rock, Blues, Alternative. I tried them against Rosson Rad-0, Audeze LCD-4, ZMF Vertie, and the Hifiman Ananda power via RME ADI-2 fs DAC. They offer amazing detail, dynamic punch, solid mid-range up in upper treble register. Sound stage offer intimacy but also instruments are not crowding on the vocalist. ... show more

One of the best planar headphones on the market today, not cheap but worth every penny, very comfortable, definitely you need amplifier to enjoy this headphones, if you don’t ready to spend some money for headphones system don’t buy they
