Regular planar magnetic driver insufficient construction of sound apertures from classical planar magnetic driver creates reflections, deflections, and refraction of sound waves, resulting in audible distortion. HIFIMAN advanced asymmetrical planar driver the innovative design of the double-sided, asymmetrical magnetic circuit is the perfect marriage of the diaphragm in nanometer thickness and its magnetic partner. The result is planar magic. 3. • These V1s were the first in a legendary lineup. Successors blow them away.
Color: Silver, Gold and black Size: He 1000 V2
The original HE1000, launched in 2015 as Hifiman’s first true flagship, were positively groundbreaking for its time. Along with Audeze’s original LCD-2, these were the first planar magnetics that achieved an authentic audiophile performance and began the legacy that rendered dynamic drivers obsolete and electrostatics woefully impractical and old fashioned. The original HE1000 inaugurated so many of the now iconic innovations that have become standard in the Hifiman signature—the neodymium magnet, the vanishingly thin diaphragm, the window shade grilles and the extraordinary, large oval pad design. The latter produced a design profile that offered immeasurable comfort and forgiveness of head placement—they surround your ears without touching them at all, and produce a soundstage that seems infinitely wide and tall, with imaging that nearly allows one to locate individual instruments with a conductor’s baton. They received considerable notice upon their launch in 2015, and put Hifiman on the map as a formidable player in the premium headphone market. But they were unfairly upstaged by the Susvara one year later, a juggernaut offering that despite briefly abandoning the oval pad design introduced the now-standard Stealth Magnet, and a degree of precision and authenticity that blew every other option on the market away in an instant. However, although the Susvara has managed to maintain its reverence to the present day, Hifiman has surpassed it by every imaginable criterion since, through the return to the original HE1000 oval pad profile and a slew of stepwise technological improvements. The original HE1000 had a sensitivity of 90, compared to the positively impossible 83 with the Susvara. Later iterations of the HE1000 line have all had even higher sensitivity. The HE1000 v2 introduced a number of sonic improvements in 2017, with superior tuning and soundstage over the original (and the Susvara). The HE1000se, released in 2018, was every bit as resolving as the Susvara, included all of the signature HFM innovations (the window shade grilles, the Stealth, neodymium magnets, the nanothin diaphragm, and the oval pad design), had a sensitivity of 96 (which could run off a dongle), and had a tuning profile that was considerably more Harman-compliant. Most recently, the oval pad design has become standard, with the Arya, Ananda, Edition XS, Audivina, and now HE1000 Stealth. The latter is Hifiman’s most Harman-tuned offering yet, with a 5-6 dB elevation of the bass shelf and some attenuation of the HE1000se’s brightness, offering long listening sessions without any hint of fatigue. It also represents HFM’s commitment to innovation by offering a flagship experience of the highest standard at a vastly more affordable asking price of $1,399. I consider it to be the finest, most enjoyable and exciting critical listening experience of any headphone on the market today, with enough versatility to perform impeccably with any genre. The original HE1000 has earned its place among modern headphone greats, and began Hifiman’s reputation as one of the most revered designers in home audio today. There is absolutely no justification for buying it today—its successors improve upon it in every imaginable way. I find it surprising to see it offered for sale as A stock in 2023; it is unquestionably a legacy item. As much respect that I have for it, I cannot recommend it for any purpose at this point—if you’re interested in a flagship Hifiman product today, go for the HE1000 Stealth or the HE1000se. You can’t go wrong with either. ... show more

  • "Heavenly sound though a pair of tin cans."
Color: Silver, Gold and black Size: He 1000 V2
Sound wise these are far and away the best sounding headphone I have ever tried. The sound is presented so diffusely that it almost sounds more like a pair of speakers sitting in front of you than a pair of headphones on your ears. The detail presented is fantastic, and the timbre is very natural. Violins and other higher-pitched instruments in particular are very true to life. That said, they are also the least isolating headphone I have ever owned. Any outside sounds WILL leak in, and your music WILL leak out. There is no getting around that, but it is a sacrifice for such clarity. Now for the bad stuff. I say they are tin cans because they really aren't built that well. At the very least, not $3000 build quality. The aluminum finish can be a little spotty in places, and the silicone-like glue they use to seal the unit is really noticeable/ugly. The wood veneer that they use looks so-so, but it feels very fragile. The ear pads don't feel that nice either (the pleather is kind of cheap feeling), and were asymmetrical on my unit. The headband is okay, but I have heard that the screws that hold them on strip and break very easily. Most notable for me, the hinges that let the ear cups swivel became very squeaky after two weeks of use. It was very annoying since they would squeak every time I moved my head/put them on. I suspect some lubricant would fix the issue, but I shouldn't have to do such a thing for something that costs so much. Comfort wise, I'd say they start off clamping a little harshly, but around a week of constant use, it becomes way more comfortable. The ear cups are large and deep enough even for my freakishly large ears. Overall, I'd say that they are worth getting only if you don't value the build of the headphones too greatly. I do like how they look, I just wish they were built to match. ... show more

  • Bench Mark Headphones
Color: Silver, Gold and black Size: He 1000 V2
I am a hopeless audiophile. I have owned many, many headphones. I maintain the Sennheiser HD-800 is the best headphone you can buy. The most bang for the buck. The Hifiman HE1000V2 is the first headphone I have tried that rivals the HD-800. As we know, it's all very subjective, but I don't think anyone that buys the HE1000's will be disappointed. Now that mine are broken in, I am immensely pleased I purchased them. They have quickly become my go to bench mark headphones. ... show more

  • Sound great, but are they built like they sound?
Color: Silver, Gold and black Size: He 1000 V2
The pair I received was poorly made. The veneer on one of the ear cups was lifted at the edge. I could see the glue. In addition, I could see a razor blade cut on the surface of that edge. I mean, really, $3000 and I see this kind of craftsmanship. They're a good sounding headphone, but I could buy a $100 pair of Sennheisers which I'm sure have better build quality standards. ... show more

  • Sound is amazing! Build soso
Color: Silver, Gold and black Size: He 1000 V2
The headphone sounds really good. The clarity is amazing. Issue I have are build quality. The wood trim isn't perfect and ear pads are not even, for 3 grand it should be. So that's it for build issues. If the sound wasn't amazing I would return them. I put them up against Audeze LCD X, LCD 2C, Focal Elex (massdrop for those that don't know), and Fostex T60rp. He-1000 v2 beats them easily. ... show more
