    • Superb Sound
I have grown quite fond of planar headphones over the last several years. I bought these particular audiophile headphones almost a year ago. The Ananda BTs, and HIFIMAN, as a company, are excellent. The sound quality is truly remarkable for a set of Bluetooth headphones; they have no real competition. Wired directly to a lossless audio source, they are superb. I have owned a wide array of both dynamic and planar headphones over the years, including Sennheiser, Bose, Bowers & Wilkins, and Audeze and only the latter two come close for me (I do still listen to them as well but HIFIMAN is my go to set). I had thought about buying the wired Ananda headphones but, after reading reviews that claimed the BT sound was virtually indistinguishable from the wired headphones, I opted for the Bluetooth version to avoid cords and a portable amp. I did worry that without dedicated buttons for skipping songs, etc., calls and controlling the phone would be a hassle, but the boom mike works so well that voice control of all such actions was incredibly convenient. Calls were also clear on both ends. I did have one significant issue with these but the company resolved the problem pleasantly and efficiently under warranty. I'm not sure if it was the battery or the chip but one day, after 6-7 months of flawless sound, they simply wouldn't turn on, or would turn on for a short time and fail to connect or play (wired or Bluetooth). The only hint of trouble had been a month or two prior when they had been slow to turn on and connect via Bluetooth, but this only happened a couple of times. HIFIMAN, to their great credit, offered to replace the headphones with the same Bluetooth model OR with the wired Ananda headphones, which I found very thoughtful. The HIFIMAN staff were all very nice and attentive through the whole process (I took some time deciding). In the end I asked for the wired replacement; I bought a small Bluetooth DAC separately to drive them and could not be happier. Having now owned both the wired and Bluetooth versions of the Ananda headphones, I can attest that the Bluetooth headphones are indeed just as exceptional sounding as the wired version. I am now a HIFIMAN customer for life and plan to buy some of their other audiophile equipment in future. I would recommend either Ananda but if you are looking primarily for Bluetooth and convenience, the BTs are the way to go - the built in amp in the BT headphones deliver truly amazing sound... just keep in mind that the headphones will not work at all if the battery goes, so pay attention to any power on or connection issues, however small, during the warranty period. ... show more

The most enjoyable headphone for the money I have yet to encounter!! Where to start. I’ve been listening to high end audio stuff since I was a student and back then, the top stuff was the likes of the HD600 and HD650. They sat there at the top for so long without any real challenge and then HIFIMAN back when they were calling themselves Head Direct started to come out with their Planar stuff and while they gave the old Senn’s a bit of a spanking they were even harder to drive so you were firmly stuck in one spot. I had no problems with that, its just how things were. Skip a decade or two and Wireless stuff starts to happen, sure it had no wires but they all sucked, really sucked. Flabby bass cannons for people that used them as a fashion accessory than for listening and I got that, wireless sucks, that’s just how it is………For work I happened to be in London and after persuading my boss flying back on Monday would be much cheaper than Friday I got to attend the CanJam. (My first outside the US) I wandered around and over heard some guys talking about some wireless headphone that they couldn’t believe how good it was, it was as good as the wired one they said. I had to go have a listen and once I found it I did just that and oh my, they were not wrong! I’m not a tech guy, I do audio not what makes HWA and LDAC matter (I read them but still not really sure what they are) and I don’t care, I just want to listen to the music. OK, it turns out I want to stand on the sofa playing air guitar (I may have been drinking) and relive my forgotten youth. The wife may have been unimpressed but I was moved, my ears and soul in a way that felt like rediscovering a long-lost friend. Its like having speakers that you can use without fear of the wife, passion, vibrancy, energy, I don’t know how it can sound like this but it does. My wife even grudgingly admitted they sounded pretty great, believe me that is high praise from her. In terms of sound signature, its very balanced, very even handed, I’d almost say ruler flat but the big drivers make me feel there could be a slight lift to the lower bass. It could be I’m just too used to most headphones not being able to reach so deep however. Mids are glowing and sumptuously smooth. These are just so realistic and open sounding. Highs are flat and a little bit grainy. I know that the best treble should be more refined but these are only $1k and they are wireless. Plus I’m using my phone as a source and not my Dave so it may not entirely be the Ananda-BT’s issue. Pace and timing are all really impressive for wireless, not perfect but they can match everything else I have for about the same price. The Ananda-BT are so for the most enjoyable money I have spent in audio, they just sound so transparent and alive, then give me freedom to get more ice for my Scotch as I dance my way to the fridge. To date they are the most enjoyable headphone for the money I have yet to encounter!! ... show more

    • Not sure if worth the money
I wouldn't call myself an audio expert, but I certainly do appreciate good quality sound and despise bad quality sound and would say I have somewhat of an ear. These headphones are certainly good, but I am not sure if they're worth $800. The sound I think is balanced and well produced and definitely on the higher end, but after listening to them a few times, I noticed a couple things...there was a popping/clicking in the left ear, though it did go away after a little while, and I felt like the treble was a little tiring on the ears. Now, the manual says they sound best after 150hrs of playback so could it be that the treble dies down a little after they are more broken in? We'll see but, all in all, I was not blown away and if I were to pick these up and put them on not knowing the price tag, I certainly would not guess $800. I will continue to listen to them to see if the sound starts to improve. EDIT: ended up returning them. Sound quality did not seem to improve all that much, trebles continued to be tiring on ear, Bluetooth connection was very spotty, and the most annoying thing was the blue led on the left can..it is very bright and flashes constantly so can’t really wear them in a dark room without it being distracting. ... show more
