These clips were supposed to allow a consistent gap between deck boards and secure the boards in place. They were very difficult to manipulate and the screws provided were too short to effectively secure the composite boards to the deck joists. I returned them and invested in the Camo tool and screws that worked very well.

When searching for hidden fasteners, I read some general reviews. It stuck in my mind that a few people were saying that they wish they'd outlaw Phillips-head screws. I can see why. I previously ordered some different hidden fasteners that only came with 100 (not enough for my project), so I ordered these too. The other hidden fasteners were excellent. The screws that came with it were square-head-drive and included a nice bit to go with it. Never a problem screwing those in. Didn't even need a pilot hole. These had Phillips-head screws which are sometimes problematic because the Phillips screw-driver bit slips out of them and you have to be really careful and sometimes drill pilot holes, making the job twice as long. These are decent hidden fasteners, but the Phillips-head screws should have been replaced with upgraded screw-head screws with a square or star drive head.

These hidden fasteners work very well for decking. My only issue is they come with Philips head screws. I prefer either torx or square drive screws since they are easier to drive without cam out. This is a great product. Just takes a little more effort to install than those clips with different screws.
