Tonight, I woefully spilled an adult beverage all over my old Little America backpack. So, I hopped on Amazon thinking, it's old, I'll replace it. Little did I know I purchased it on January 26, 2015. At the time I figured this was just a stylish, disposable fashion accessory. So, let me tell you where mine has been since 2015: 16 countries At least 150 flights Well over 1,000,000 car and airplane miles I've lived out of it for weeks in hostels, hiked, gotten it muddy, Smashed under luggage, boxes, you name it, filled it with books, put 3 laptops in the sleeve at once, tossed soaked clothes and towels in it, spilled any number of substances, taken it to countless beaches and used it as a pillow, propped my feet on it under airplane seats...I could go on. And it just holds up. After nearly a decade, NOTHING has frayed, torn, or come loose. Sure, the padding in the left strap is shot, the fake leather is flaking, the tag and striped liner are stained. But it just keeps going. At this rate, I think I'll just toss it back in the washer (yes, you can wash it in a bag) and use it for another 8 years. Thank you Herschel for making such a stylish, durable bag that I'll love for a lifetime. ... show more

    • Great Versatile Backpack

When I was first shopping for a Herschel Backpack and had decided I liked the Little America look, I read through multiple reviews that said that the full-size Little America would look too massive on a person my height (5'5"), so I ordered the mid volume instead. That was a big mistake. I'm a college student, so I was looking for a backpack to wear around campus that would look nice even if I were wearing a dress and overall nicer clothing. Whenever I wear the typical L.L. Bean, North Face, or IVAR backpack with a dress, I feel rather like a small child who's been dressed by their mom for first grade. So I definitely wanted something that looked a little more adult and sophisticated, but I still needed it to be a size that would accommodate binders, multiple novels or literary textbooks, a pencil case, and my laptop. The mid-volume simply couldn't store all of that. In fact, it couldn't even fit the binder I needed, much less that along with a laptop and books! That aside, the mid-volume also looked terribly odd on a person my height! I felt more childish wearing that than I did wearing the more athletic style backpacks, so it had to go. I returned it and got this full-size Little America instead, and I absolutely love it! It fits everything I need and looks nice with everything I would ever wear to class. Plus the laptop sleeve is lined with this awesome faux fur fleecy material that keeps my Macbook dust-free and safe in the backpack. It has two little side panel pockets on the inside, and I like to stick a pencil case in one and sometimes a granola bar or piece of fruit in the other if I'm going to be stuck on campus for a long time. The front pocket has a convenient clip to stick your keychain on, which is super nice if you misplace things as much as I do. Plus it just acts as a nice thing to keep those keys from wandering around in the big pocket of the backpack. One of my favorite things about this pack is how versatile it is, though. Because there aren't dividers in the main section of the backpack, aside from the laptop sleeve of course, this school backpack switches to a weekend bag super quickly and easily! It's just as easy to store clothes and such in it as it is books and notepads, which is different from some of the other backpacks I've had (see first paragraph for example brands). I am honestly very pleased with what I received. I was really iffy about "wasting" my money on a really expensive bag, since I didn't really know what to expect just by looking at the few images amazon displays on the page. I heavily relied on the customer reviews and photos people posted (thank you, by the way) in order to make up my mind on whether or not I should buy it, or which color I should even buy. Suffice to say, This bag is very durable and looks much more visually appealing than i expected. With the red stripes in the interior, (which i originally thought was a turn off) it really compliments the black exterior of the bag, and the straps look very durable (not tacky at ALL) . The size measurements are very accurate and you can use my photos as proof. Although it is quite big on a 5'2" girl such as myself, it is able to 3 text books, a binder and a winter coat in it, with MUCH more extra space. Also, the back has very soft padding, on the arm straps as well, so it is very comfortable to wear for long periods of time, even if you are carrying a heavy load. There are two mini pockets in the sides of the interior to store small items, such as a phone, sunglasses, ect. In addition to the fur-lined laptop pocket, which can safely hold my 15 inch Macbook Pro. The front pocket is just a pocket, with a little key chain holder to hold maybe hand sanitizer or keys. However, the only con i should point out is that there aren't enough pockets. The front pocket is just a large pocket with no other mini-pockets inside, so this bag is highly recommended for people who don't carry many small items with them, or know how to use a purse or pencil case. I know the feel, being hesitant to order this bag since there weren't many details specified in the page that would've be helpful to know, or believing that the specs aren't reliable. So to ease your discomforts, I added photos that i took right when it got out of the box, including the measurements. Honestly, just buy it, it is definitely worth it. ... show more
