  • By far the best hammock on the market
Size: Expedition Zip
I don't even know where to begin, I have so many positive things to say about this hammock, it is in my opinion the absolute best Hammock on the market. Ive used this hammock about a dozen times since February (after trying countless others) and I can't get over how comfortable it is, how stable it is, and how easy it is to set up. I'm 6' 230lbs and the Expedition Asym doesn't sag me down to the ground like "parachute" style hammocks do. Hennessys incorporation of the Ridgeline directly in to the design makes getting in and out of this hammock a breeze where others cause you to play a balancing act. The first time I used this Hammock was on a single bag kayak adventure down the Peace River in Southwest Florida, the weather was already starting to warm up and we hit highs in upper 80s and lows in the lower 60s. I was amazed at how well the hammock kept me cool when relaxing in the hot afternoons, the breeze under your bottom side definitely has a cooling effect. Depending on your climate I may recommend using an under quilt in conjunction with a sleeping bag to keep your hind end from freezing. In Florida's tropical climate that was not an issue, my cheap sleeping bag sufficed during the cool nights. My most recent trip was another solo bag trip to an island off of beautiful Boca Grande Florida. This time the Temps reached 95* for a high and didn't get below 80 for a low. I was amazed once again at how well the rain fly would help keep the sun off of me during my afternoon breaks and how cool it kept me at night. Here in Florida we are no stranger to a plethora of insects, from mosquitoes to biting horse flies to the absolute worst "noseeums" they are microscopic biting midges roughly the size of a flea. Most bug nets are no match for them, but this one prevailed where many others have failed. I found trees roughly 14' apart work work best, but I have hung this hammock with hammock straps to distances surpassing 20' but I have also hung it on trees as close to 10' apart. Adding a sleep pad helps promote a flatter lay and adds another layer of warmth and protection from bugs. If I had a few recommendations to give this is what they would be. For anyone over 6'2 look in to getting the Hennessy Hammock Explorer as it is better suited for taller users. If you live in a tropical climate like I do you may want to get the "jungle" version as it adds a second layer of protection on your bottom half from pesky mosquitoes, it also nests an optional pad for warmth and comfort. You can also add a set of Repell Rings to make setup easier and faster although it is not recommended by Hennessy as it puts some "wear" on the lines that support your weight. I personally have not seen any wear. I also recommend getting a slightly larger rainfly (hex asym) if you plan on using this in a wet climate, the standard asym rainfly will keep you dry in some rainfall but just barely, it is more suited for slight drizzles and the morning dew. If you want to stay dry in any type of rain you must stake it down close making it a little muggy when inside and leaving minimal room to get in and out of the hammock. The Hex asym rainfly on the other hand adds the much needed coverage to stay comfortably dry while allowing airflow and ease of access. The three must haves items you should add to your cart before checkout are 1) hammock straps (I prefer Bear Butt straps as they are affordable, durable, stand behind their products and are of high quality. They also come with bonus steel caribeaners) 2) Aluminum Caribeaners (Again I prefer Bear Butt caribeaners as stated for the same reasons I chose Bear Butt straps. The aluminum caribeaners are larger making setup easier and also a third of the weight of the ones that come with the Bear Butt straps) And finally 3) Hennessy Hammock Snake Skins! It is absolutely amazing at how fast setup and takedown is with such a simple yet effective product. My hammock doesn't even touch the ground when I go out camping! These are an absolute must have no questions asked item. ... show more

  • Great hammock.
Size: Expedition Zip
This is a great quality hammock in an all-inclusive system. Many of the other hammocks I looked at and researched reviews for are approximately the same price as this if you also purchase the rain fly (which most hammocks have sold separately). This offers an option where the rain fly is included and specifically for the hammock itself. I use carabiner and rap rings to set up the hammock, which makes setting up the hammock quite easy and quick. I also use a separately purchased SnakeSkins to pack away and store the hammock and rain fly. The SnakeSkins is quite convenient, so I recommend getting it to accompany your hammock. The included rain fly may seem small for some people's liking, but it's great for what it's designed for. It's shaped and sized to fit exactly over and around the hammock. It protects the hammock from precipitation from above and blocks wind from the sides. Some people who want extra protection for equipment, cooking area, or other things may find this rain fly inadequate due to its minimalist design. However, I was looking for something that would pack away nice and compact with the hammock so this rain fly is perfect. I use a separate tarp to set up a covered area for other purposes. This allows me to be flexible in whether I want another tarp area or not. It's great for what I was looking for. The integrated bug net was definitely a must for me. I hate creepy crawly things and don't care to share my bed with them. The bug net with the side zip has worked out quite well so far. Having the ridge line located where it is also works out well. It not only keeps the bug net suspended comfortably, but the ridge line is quite convenient for hanging things in the hammock. I hang a small light from it. The hanging storage pouch is also really convenient as I can put the contents of my pockets in there so I can sleep more comfortably. The asymmetric design provides for a relatively flat lay and works quite well. I definitely recommend using a good sleeping pad when sleeping in a hammock. The temperature difference between having a pad and being in direct contact with the hammock is huge. I haven't tried it, but I think even a fairly warm summer night might end up feeling pretty cold without a sleeping pad. A good pad will also help shape the hammock into a more flat sleeping surface. The one complaint I have with this system is that it doesn't include any stakes, but I just bought some cheap stakes to use with it for about $2 for four stakes. Overall, this is a great hammock system. Definitely recommend it. ... show more

  • Great hammock
Size: Expedition Zip
I have trouble camping on just about any sleeping mat in a tent so I decided I would try hammock camping and picked this one as the first hammock I would try since I would be hiking through areas where rain and bugs were so I wanted a package that included the bug netting built in and came with the rain fly. As many reviews have pointed out, the rain fly is small but in the rain I had no problems with it. Really the only time this would keep you from getting wet would be in a strong storm with sideways rain and in cases like that, you would really need a large rain fly that can close off on all sides, for what this one does, it was no problem. I was generally comfortable sleeping except my outside foot, when I tried to sleep diagonally, would have pressure against it from the side wall of the hammock and fall asleep a lot so I only partially slept sideways in this however I slept darn well and had no back or joint pain in the morning so I'm sold on this. I am 5'10 so while this hammock does accommodate my height I think I will need to upgrade to a hammock for just a slightly taller person. This one will probably be perfect for someone that is 5'7 or shorter. The quality was good, I was able to set it up fast using the carabiner with rap ring technique and I had the snake skins which made packing and unpacking a breeze. Great product and I will continue to use it for sometime before I do eventually upgrade to a bigger model. ... show more

  • Amazing hammock
Size: Expedition Zip
Never had a hammock until now. It is insanely comfortable. Make sure you buy an under quilt for it, when temperatures drop below 60 Fahrenheit, cold air flies through the bottom and you’ll be freezing. Get an under quilt otherwise hammock is the best.
