We put this set on our wedding registry to replace an older set that had started to fall apart over the years. They are pretty good - I've already sliced my finger open on a first cut of a pepper (it was like a hot knife through butter, wasn't expecting it to just slide right through). However, we don't find them to be quite as good as our old knives when it comes to cutting up a piece of steak for dinner - but they still definitely get the job done :-) ... show more

As with many made in China items, the tolerances and build quality can't rival the higher quality ones made in Spain or especially the professional series made in Germany. The steel is acceptable, but not great. They hold an edge reasonably well, and sharpen easily enough. For the Amazon price it is a very good set, but would not be worth the supposed MSRP. What I especially appreciate is the lack of a bolster at the handle end, making them easier to sharpen. Just wipe after use and never let them sit in water. ... show more

Quality is better than expected. My wife wanted a set of Cutco knives. They are way overpriced. I can buy 10 sets of these knives for less than a set of Cutco. Highly recommend.

I bought these knives to replace a hodgepodge of random blades from various Chicago Cutlery acquisitions over the previous decades. These blades are wonderful in comparison; a nice, composed set. I love the small chopper, which is almost always my first choice when reaching for a knife. Now the issues: The steel sometimes takes on a rust-like spot or two, for no identifiable reason. They don’t scrub off and require metal polish to remove. I can’t be sure, but it appears to be some sort of corrosion. The biggest issue for me is that the cut of the handles is flat on the top surface. This makes the knives easily lay on their backs with the cutting edge facing up. Even when randomly placing a knife on the counter or in the sink, I frequently find them blade-side up when reaching for them. We haven’t been cut yet, but have come close. I’ll probably put small dabs of silicone caulk on the backs of the handles to prevent this in the future. Bottom line: I’m glad I bought them because they’re far superior to what I had, but I wouldn’t buy them again because of the blade standing issue. ... show more

You can tell the quality just from the sound when honing the blades. Extremely sharp and work amazing. We have never used a dishwasher on these and wash immediately after use so I cannot speak to that. But these knives are definitely a great quality for the price with the proper care
