  • Bob Seger
Great CD. I recommend

  • Worth the Wait
In my opinion Bob Seger remains one of THE most underrated rockers of the past 50 years. Sure, he had his share of hits, but I still don't think he received the critical acclaim that he deserved. And now, finally after a multi-decade wait,we have his early Cameo label recordings from the mid-1960s available on CD. One reviewer mentioned the Beatles and Bob Dylan as influences on Seger's early sound, but you can also hear a bit of James Brown and even the Beach Boys on these tracks too. Man, it's all a total delight to hear. Seger fans should rush out and get this one ASAP. Worth the wait! ... show more

  • It's a start ......
Hopefully this L.p will be the start of Bob's longtime manager " Punch" Andrews brain to finally listen to fans of Bob's early out of print music to be reissued, I like this L.p but a few songs sound like they aren't from master tapes ,actually a few songs on this L.p sound like "Needle Drop recordings" a.k.a recorded from the original vinyl 45s..Like I mentioned, hopefully this is a start and (Wishful thinking) maybe Segers old records like " Noah" , " Brand New Morning" most of all : " Back In 72" reissued ,that album in my books is one of Bob's best " Turn The Page" " Rosalie" the title cut and the cover songs especially FREE`s " The Stealer" and Van Morrison's" I've Been Working" are outstanding( Wish one of them was chosen instead of" Midnight Rider" for " The Early Seger" cd, all in all I do recommend this L.p even to us old timers who know or own the original vinyl 45s as it's a short (28 or so minutes) but (Almost) complete compilation of "Bob Seger And The Heard " music output, now here's wishing they continue with on with reissues of " The Bob Seger System"!!! ... show more

  • Important Chronicle of an Artist's Development
Bob Seger is the quintessential heartland rock 'n roller. It took him a long time (12 years) to get national recognition, but once he broke through with the "Night Moves" album in 1979, Seger and the Silver Bullet Band enjoyed sold-out tours and high charting albums on their own terms for 40 years. Currently in his "farewell tour" this record shows Seger struggling to "find his feet" ( a phrase from his song "Down on Main Street" on the Night Moves album.) The Cameo Recordings clearly show Seger's influences - Bob Dylan and the Beatles -culminating in him hitting his stride in the hard-driving rock 'n roll of "Heavy Music," the seminal track on this record which points the future direction of Seger. This release is a must for any Seger fan who wants to understand this artist's journey. From imitating the greats to finding his own sound and becoming one of the greats himself, this record shows the roadmap every artist takes follows....taking the influences - the puzzle pieces - and putting them together in your own way. ... show more

  • If you grew up in the Detroit area in the 60's, this one is for you
It took 50 years but Persecution Smith is finally out on CD. It was like hearing it for the first time. It takes off and doesn't come down until the very end. One of the greatest features is the "kamikaze" guitar during the song. I first heard this one live at the Teen Age Fair at Cobo Hall in January of 67 performed by one young Bob Seger and the great Last Heard. This compilation is crucial for any fan of Bob Seger...especially original fans. ... show more

  • Early Seger is a must.
It is very hard to find early Bob Seger and the "Last Heard" and Bob Seger System.Great songs like 2+2=? and East Side Story plus Heavy Music. This album has Heavy Music and East Side Story.Well worth it.

  • Earliest Seger Rocks
LOVE this compilation of the music Bob Seger made in the mid 1960s. Seger is at his garage rock period best on every high energy track. The Last Heard are in perfect support ,mining the then contemporary rock sounds. Influences are in abundance,One can hear echos of the Rolling Stones, Mitch Ryder and,on "Florida Time"..the Beach Boys (? ) "Very Few' is a pretty ballad ."Heavy Music" is still in his sets today. Nice to have these early singles gathered in one compilation . ... show more
