Description

Based on the fantastical illustrated magazine HEAVY METAL, producer IVAN REITMAN enlists the help of some of Hollywood's animation masters to create the otherworldly tale of a glowing green orb from outer space that spreads destruction throughout the galaxy. Only when encountered by its one true enemy, to whom it is inexplicably drawn, will goodness prevail throughout the universe. Richly and lavishly drawn, the vignettes of the orb's dark victories include the character voices of John Candy, Harold Ramis and a pounding soundtrack by Black Sabbath, Blue Oyster Cult, Cheap Trick, Devo, Donald Fagen, Don Felder, Grand Funk Railroad, Sammy Hagar, Journey, Nazareth, Stevie Nicks, Riggs, and Trust. Highly imaginative and full of surprising special effects, HEAVY METAL set the standard for alternative contemporary animation. An intoxicating experience not to be missed!

A Cult Classic!
Though some consider the soundtrack to be better than the movie, I will always have fond memories of having one of my friend's dad take a group of 15 and16-year-old guys to see this movie and him leaving us there when the previews came on! Call it Heavy Metal!

Awesome 1980’s Adult Animated Movie
I remember seeing this for the first time in the early 1990’s when I was in my early teens. One of my all time favorite animated movies, and movies period.

Still a classic
Heavy Metal is an adult animation movie that was scored with a rock soundtrack. It's draws it's inspiration for science fiction and fantasy. The movie is an anthology with a wrap around story. Each segment is handled by different artists, writers, actors, and directors. The different segments range from more comedic to serious in tone. Overall this is an impressive film and still holds up even years later. ... show more

The Quality is astonishing!
I will keep this review simple for you. I saw this movie in the theater when it first came out and fell in love with it. Since then I have owned this movie in literally every version over the decades. From a crappy VHS bootleg to the 2011 Blue Ray. Let me tell you with zero exaggeration, this 4k transfer is beyond belief! The movie looks like it was shot yesterday. The perfection, clarity and richness of the transfer is superior to perhaps any 4k transfer to date. I really just sat there with my mouth hanging open for 90 min. And it is not just the video, the sound was equally amazing. An incredible, powerful and dynamic 7.1 HD soundfield. I have never spent better money on a 4k transfer than this. If you love this movie, you MUST own this 4k disc, period. ... show more
