This shelving rack kit arrived inside a box that was heavy, but my husband was able to carry it inside easily. As a petite woman, I could also manage it with more effort, noting that we’re both energetic and in good shape. After unpacking the racks, lifting one alone is hardly any trouble, yet they still feel completely heavy duty. I’m really impressed with the appearance and burr-free texture of the surfaces of the racks, which makes these look a good deal nicer than if they were just completely industrial and utilitarian. No instructions came with these, so my husband figured out (it probably wouldn’t have immediately occurred to me) that the little t-beams that arrived fastened to each rack fit into their bottom hole. This keeps the racks from swaying by bracing them against the wall. Coming back to this listing to look at the installation video, I see that my husband was correct. Now, we don’t have a shipping container, so we don’t have pre-installed loops on which to hang these. Our house’s original garage was converted into an extra bedroom, but several feet of garage space was left in place. So, the garage door remains there, and a few feet in, there stands a thick, plywood wall that serves as the back of the “garage” space. In that small garage space, we store a bunch of large storage containers full of holiday decorations as well as a bagged up Christmas tree and a Halloween tree. We have been stacking the containers somewhat, but they’re heavy enough that stacking more than a couple can collapse the lids of some of the bottom containers. This storage shelving system seemed like the perfect solution, assuming we can figure out how to hang it differently than intended. My husband is still planning and gathering other supplies for this project, including the shelving wood, which is very expensive for us and which will take us time to save up for all of it. We have two ideas on how we might hang these brackets. The first is to simply bore out large holes near the top of the plywood wall that we could simply slip the top of these racks into. The other idea is to install heavy duty hooks holding a heavy-duty rod that these racks would then simply latch onto. With some potential trial-and-error, we’ll make it work in whatever way we can, but this is a little bit more of a project for us than if we had already had a shipping container that’s properly equipped for this shelving system. Overall, we’re very happy with the quality, appearance, and simplicity of this shelving system. And regardless of how much or how little effort this system takes to install, you do still have to provide some sort of shelving for it.

I was familiar with the Oakmore brand of commercial heavy duty door knobs - we have 2 indicator bathroom knobs in our home. To show the status of the room - occupied or vacant. When I saw that Oakmore was offering these shelf supports for shipping containers, I was thrilled to get the chance to try them and give my honest opinion. My husband has 2 shipping containers. We live on a ranch and the shipping containers are one of the most economical rodent free - typically water tight methods of storage we have found for our needs. The container where he stores his John Deere 1025r tractor and backhoe has to be setup just right to give him both storage and room to back in the tractor with the backhoe still installed. These shelves are planned for that container. Still having the floor space below the shelving supports was the biggest reason we chose these. The shelf supports are heavy duty. The set of 4 was manageable to move with a 2 wheeler for me - a 60 year woman that is 5 '2 " not moving them up any stairs. Or my husband who is 60+ 6’3” 215 lb who is used to handling large and heavy stuff - he was able to just pick them up and carry the set of 4 in the house. Although with the 4 steps into the house part of the house we wanted to bring them in to see them the first time, he chose to sit them on their side and slide them in rather than carry them up the stairs. The listing details say that each support weighs 10 lbs. These are well designed and take nothing to install. There is no hardware needed. It is so quick and easy for something that will give us so much organization and storage. The factory welded hooks attach to the side of the container and the lower cross supports (shown in the listing photos as the 11” part) - holds the shelf away from the wall - using the corrugated pattern in the container as the support. This type of shelf support should stay in place or can be easily removed and placed in the floor if the container needs to be moved or relocated. It seems that about 1x per year my husband has a different plan about how the two containers should be placed for the best safety and usability. This set of 4 gives us a long run of shelving without having anything on the floor in the way. The distance between the brackets is decided by the end user. Each bracket is rated at 550 lbs or a total for a pair of 1100 lbs for the total weight that the brackets are designed to hold, including the material used to create the shelves and the items to be stored on the shelves. There can be long runs of lumber along one wall and it can be different dimensions - for example 16ft = 4’ between brackets or 20’ = 5’ between brackets - using all 4 of the brackets. Or there can be a shelf on each side of the container with the brackets being 6-10 ft apart or less with the shelves running the width of the 2 brackets. Other than the product weight rating, the thickness and quality of the lumber is important to consider - making a choice that will prevent the wood from sagging or damage long term. And vice versa - the weight of the items we are planning to store as well as how far we intend to space the brackets apart should be considered when choosing the thickness of the lumber for these shelf brackets. The top shelf has a limit of 2” thick - based on the shelf bracket design. We are also discussing the type of material - yellow pine vs OSB or Plywood and comparing the current cost of each.

First time using a shelving unit like this. The main unit comes assembled, but you will have to add the support bar prior to installation. You will need to add the shelving boards as well, which are not included. I put the shelving up, to see how everything will sit. I cut some 3/4" plywood to 18" and they fit on the supports, although there is some play. I think once I put more weight on the shelves there shouldn't be any movement. Installs to the upper hooks on your shipping container. I have a 40' high cube and there is a lot of space under the lowest point. I added these to the opposite wall of my floor shelves to get the most storage possible. I can put larger items under them that don't fit on either shelving unit. Helps to keep everything organized and still ample walking room between the two.
