I got tired of cranking 50 times to get the amount of pepper I wanted. This holds a lot of whole pepper and will grind about a teaspoon is 3 cranks or less. I might go as far as saying I love this grinder.

The media could not be loaded. I'm a quasi chef. This is by far the best pepper and rock salt grinder I ever used. It feels very solid and the built quality is great. It can grind to very fine level or coarser. It's the same, if not better, compared to the ones at twice the price.

There have been many occasions when I’ve entertained myself by counting how many times that I’ve cranked my grinder to get the desired amount of pepper. I would usually stop at fifty turns, (not an exaggeration) because that seemed like a fair number to end at, I finally had enough pepper, and my hand was usually tired by then. We all know that most foods need a great dose and I’ve simply never had a capable instrument until I found this one. The output is jaw dropping. It’s seriously so impressive. Four swift twists of the wrist and I have the perfect amount of pepper, which, by the way, is roughly equivalent to the fifty cranks mentioned above. Personally, I like coarser pepper, but some people that I like to cook for, do not. This pepper mill has twelve external adjustments which is quite remarkable, however, the one and two setting doesn’t work as well as the rest of the settings. Setting three works perfectly and the pepper is ground mightily fine, so I honestly don’t mind that the lower settings are faulty, because three is small enough. The mill is made from aluminum and looks like a sleek flashlight. It’s heavy and fits nicely in the palm of my hand. I tend to grind directly over the food I’m preparing, but there’s a cup that fits on the bottom, which could be useful for those who are measuring a specific amount. While I’m wowed by this tool, it is expensive and is worth almost every penny, but with the lower settings on the fritz, I’m a wee bit disappointed. Disappointed, yet still elated, because I truly do love this thing!

This review is for the Heavy Duty Manual Pepper Grinder by ARKNOAH (Model: PM-02), one of the more curious products I've encountered. It's both a pepper grinder and a statement piece, perhaps elevating the mundane task of grinding pepper into art. The PM-02 is overkill for most, featuring fully metal construction and precision mechanical parts. Turning the external adjustment dial feels like the aperture ring of a vintage camera lens, complete with a series of deliberate and precise clicks. It weighs a hefty ~1.4 pounds (>600 g) and is ~7.25 inches (~18.4 cm) tall, and boy does it fly through pepper. Unlike many grinders, where you must stop and turn it upside down to make adjustments, the PM-02 allows for on-the-fly coarseness changes. It's incredibly convenient and more sanitary to boot. There are a couple of mildly controversial design choices, however. Firstly, the grinder can only be dismantled with a triangle-shaped bit, making it harder to deep clean. The issue is exacerbated by the fact that the burr is made from 430 stainless steel, which is harder and longer-lasting than regular 304 stainless steel in grinding applications but is also less corrosion-resistant. (Definitely do not use this grinder with salt!!) I suspect ARKNOAH doesn't intend for you to dismantle this grinder, so they also try to dissuade you from cleaning it with water since you won't be able to dry off the pieces immediately. The second issue is that the 1-12 coarseness scale indicator triangle can WRAP AROUND, so while 12 is supposedly the most coarse, you can keep turning it to 1, for example. All in all, the ARKNOAH PM-02 feels like a love letter to mechanical precision in kitchenware. It's not necessarily practical or even a good value, but I appreciate it. Notes: 1) Just for fun, I tried grinding coffee with it: 18g, medium coarse. I had to refill it once, and was sore when I finally finished. While the grinder is capable of finer grind, I found that beyond 4 or 5 on the scale, coffee beans would no longer feed into the burrs. Lesson learned: stick with pepper.
