Description

Say goodbye to your unhealthy candle-making process with our organic soy wax kit. Unlike other wax brands that add unnatural minerals to their wax, we use only plant-based additives such as soybean and vegetable oils. This makes our soy wax a more natural option compared to traditional paraffin wax that exudes harmful chemicals as they burn. With its fragrance throw, you can count on soy wax to work the magic within your space as it leaves a faint scent when it’s lit, making your home feel cozier. Its melting point is at 120 degrees so make sure to maintain that for a more pleasant hot throw. This kit includes not just soy, but the wicks and centering devices needed to make your candle-making process as seamless as possible. Each wick is cut to 6” and pre-waxed for an efficient set and burn. Use the centering device to position your wick as the wax is cooling and you’re all set! From the very heartbeat of Brooklyn, we supply you with all the necessary items to turn your home into your unique craft and comfort zone. With the finest and purest ingredients, Hearts & Crafts stands on a foundation built from mother nature herself. Let us fill your world with the intrinsic elements of ours. How do you get the wicks to stick to the bottom? You can add a little wax or tape to the bottom of the wick in order for it to properly stick to the container. Does the wax stain fabric? All Hearts & Crafts waxes are all-natural, irritant-free and stain-free, making it safe for your home and loved ones. Is this 464 or 444 wax? Neither. Hearts & Crafts uses a unique wax formulated to make premium candles. From the eclectic spirit of Brooklyn, Hearts & Crafts brings artisan beauty and creative pride to your home. We remember a time of hidden magic and help spread it to the rest of the world. Hearts & Crafts stands on a foundation built from Mother Nature herself. Natural soy wax is an excellent choice for candle making. It is derived from soybean oil, making it a renewable and environmentally-friendly option. One of the top benefits of natural soy wax is its clean and long-lasting burn. Soy wax candles tend to have a slower burn rate compared to other types of wax, which means you can enjoy your candle for a longer period of time. Additionally, soy wax produces minimal soot and smoke, ensuring a clean and healthy atmosphere. Another advantage of soy wax is its ability to hold fragrance. Soy wax has a great scent throw, meaning it can disperse fragrance oils effectively and fill your space with a delightful aroma. Furthermore, soy wax is easy to work with. It has a lower melting point, which makes it easier to handle and pour. It also has a natural creamy appearance and can hold color dyes well, allowing for creative and visually appealing candle designs. Lastly, soy wax is biodegradable, making it an eco-friendly choice. It is made from a renewable resource, as opposed to petroleum-based waxes, which contributes to a more sustainable candle-making industry. Overall, natural soy wax is highly recommended for candle making due to its clean burn, strong fragrance throw, ease of use, and eco-friendly properties. ... show more

Love this wax. Switched to soy wax because it’s better for my lungs. I haven’t used scent or color, but candles come out nicely.

    • Great Kit for Older Kids
Size: 5 lbs
I really like this wax. It smells like cucumbers to me, when up close to it. Melted while burning the wick, it doesn't smell like anything by itself. Previously I've used bees wax, and no one liked the smell of it, so this is a nice alternative. The wicks are very convenient. I made my own the first time with the bees wax but these wicks provided burn far longer than homemade. The wick holders are a big help too. I liked this kit, and it was a good project to do with my kids, plus a decent price. I recommend this one. The only thing you will need is a double-boiler or similar set up for melting the wax, and then your container of choice. We used Ball brand Mason jars. The jelly jar size with embossed cross-hatching was a perfect size to accomodate the wick's length, which I believe was about 8oz, and too long where I had to snip it...so really any jar not bigger than 24 oz and you'll have enough wick. ... show more

    • Great starter kit - four stars (for now ...)
Size: 5 lbs
Making candles at Christmas was a family tradition when I was little and when my dad took charge. I wanted to get back into the tradition (in his honor), so I purchased this starter kit for my first time going solo. It's an OK kit for beginners - with some good and not-so-good. I'll update my review as I continue to experiment -- this is only my initial impressions of the product. (As of this writing, I haven't lit to test the candle wicks): - Wax: is SUPER easy to work with. It melts nicely and absorbs color evenly. It's unscented, but seems to take essential oil evenly, too. It's a little greasy - I've spilled some over my hands and turns out - it's a nice lotion! Made me worry, though - which is why I got back online here to read reviews! - Wicks: are SUPER flimsy! You've got to work hard to straighten them, and even then, I've had a really hard time getting them to sit straight in the jar. - Wick centering thingie: I thought this would make life easier - but truthfully, I haven't really used the wick centering device. I'm making my candles in Oui yogurt jars, and the centerer is too big for the jars. I remember a trick my dad taught me, which is to tape the wicks to a cupboard and dangle 'em down into the jars. That works better for me, but because the wicks are so short, I need to jury-rig a high, flat surface to adequately dangle the wick into my jars. No biggie - just not as "starter kit" as I would have hoped. I'm still in process of making a bunch of candles - I'll update this with more info on the wick as it burns. Reading the reviews made me wonder if people might have been using too big of jars. Like I said, I'm using Oui jars (and will move to 4" mason jars), so maybe that makes a difference?? ... show more

    • Great Wax
Size: 10 lb
This was the first wax I bought in attempting to make candles, and it was great. It was about 1.5 oz short for me, which could have been a measuring error on my part (I was making in pound and half pound increments). Using a double boiler I heated it to 185 and added the fragrance oil. I usually stick with 6-8% fragrance load depending on the strength of the oil. I let it cool to around 145-150 and poured. It needs to cure for a few days (or longer, depending on some sources I read). I do wish it had come with more directions or tips, and I still have some testing and experimenting to do to improve my product, but overall it's pretty simple if you just want to get started: melt, add fragrance, pour. There's a lotttttt of science if you are going past that! Different temps to add fragrance, letting it cool and pouring at different temps (with changes in elevation, ambient temp, etc all coming into play). Hot throw, cold throw, proper wicking (these wicks have about a 1.5-2" max melt pool - great for votives but anything bigger will need to be double wicked. That's probably why they sent 100, honestly, because that's about how many votives you can get out of it!). Lots to try and test, but I told my husband here's why I think candle-making is my new favorite hobby: You can always melt your mistakes!! Happy chandling, folks!! ... show more
