  • Good wide angle camera One Major flaw
This is a good camera for covering wide areas. I got this to replace an old 960P camera, and the difference in image quality is remarkable. I use Synology Surveillance Station, and this camera works well with it. It comes with a preset IP address in the 192.168.1.X range. I use al 10.X.X.X IPs. So I created a temporary network to connect to the camera and change it to DHCP. I then placed it on a port to my Camera VLAN and reserved an IP for it. There are many settings for this camera. I particularly liked the wide angle correction. I aimed the camera edge at a line, and adjusted it until the line on the edge of the camera was straight. I set it up on one corner to cover part of the front yard, the street, driveway, and walkway to the front door. It is a great supplement to my other cameras. I have a fixed and a PTZ on the driveway for close ups, and a front door camera. This camera covers what happens when someone goes offscreen from one of those. Detail is good. You can see some test shots I took holding a Capsule box. The C is 33mm/1.3" tall. I set up the camera to get NTP from my Synology box, and changed the label to CAM 3 for the onscreen overlay. The Synology setup was quick. I just entered the IP and port, and told it the camera was ONVIF. Camera picked up right away. One feature I really like on this camera is that the Ethernet Jack has an LED that lights up when POE is detected. That's a great feature to visually see that the camera is getting power. Power draw is minimal. I saw it spike over 5W briefly, but it was usually around 2W to 3.5W during testing in my office. Also, this camera does not get hot like some of my other POE cameras do. It has gone through a couple of rains since I mounted it outside, and there are no issues. Camera is sealed well, lens does not fog up inside after rain or in the morning. Night mode is decent. I ran out of image space to upload. You can see from the night images that the area covered by the IR LEDs is good. I have mine pointed downward to get detail nearer to the house, as I have other cameras covering the rest. I noticed the IR from some of my other cameras supplemented distance viewing to a degree. Long distance detail at night is grainy as would be expected for a wide angle lens. I only use this with Synology. So, I can't comment on the other features, but there are many. My Camera VLAN is closed to the Internet both ways, as well as being segregated from my other VLANs. Only the Synology gets through. I included pics of the config screens including features I didn't use. There are several pages that do not apply to this camera. I left them out. The H.265 is not compatible with Synology. So, I use H.264 which works fine. I've now had this camera running for a month, and it is doing well. I'm renting this house. So, I can't run cable as much as I'd like to. My primary network is not located close to this camera. I connected a Camera VLAN port on one of my managed switches to a powerline Ethernet adapter, and on the other end connected the second powerline adapter to a small unmanaged POE switch. From there I ran the cable to this camera, and have 3 more POE ports to run to more cameras in the near future. Works perfectly. Again, this is a great camera to cover a wide area and supplement your more focused cameras. 5MP at 15 frames saves disk space. You can run higher frames, but for wide angle coverage you don't need it (really, you could run it slower and it would still to great). Then you can reserve more space for your 4K/optical zoom close detail cameras. Now it is 2 years later. The camera has served me well. I moved. As part of the move, I rebuilt my network and all devices. That is when I discovered there is no reset button for this camera. That is a major fail for me. There is an app to reset the camera, but that is not what I expect from my cameras. ... show more

  • The video quality is much better than my old camera
First I really like the fact that it's compatible with my Lorex system. My old camera is POE, all you have to do is plug in the cat5 cable and that's it. The video quality is much cleaner than the old camera which I like very much. The night vision is decent not bad but not great either.. I am hoping that I can read license plate of parked vehicle on my street but I can't. You can't make out the letters. The physical size of the camera is slightly larger than my old one, not a huge deal. Mounting is very simple. If you can use a screw driver, you are good. In just wish they give you some stainless screws because I will use it outside. But other than that, it does its job. It does a good job. As far as longevity, I will post update in the future and let you know. I am happy with the purchase!!! ... show more

  • Great value for the money
I bought 3 of these cameras to put around my house for security, as well as to capture pictures of some of the wildlife in the neighborhood. I was looking for something with decent picture quality and night vision. Since I didn't want to run a power source everywhere, POE was a must. The overall hardware quality seems great. The unit feels solid and well-made. I like how the cable comes directly out of the bottom of the mount, so you'd just drill a hole and cover up the hole with the camera, never exposing the cable. My first attempt at using these cameras failed. I did a bit of digging, and it turned out the POE switch I bought wasn't fully 802.3af compatible, so the cameras never came on. I ended up instead buying the Ubiquiti Networks Unifi Switch 8-Port (Model US-8-150W) which works perfectly. The cameras powered up right away, and the switch supplies plenty of power. Each camera seems to take about 2 watts of power during normal use, and about 4 watts of power during night mode. One of the huge drawbacks of these devices is the software that comes with the device. You have to download the software from a URL, which is a RAR file you have to decompress, then find a ZIP file within there, unzip that, then run an installer. The program is pretty basic and finds the camera on the network, and lets you do some basic configuration such as change the IP address and ports. If you want to do anything else (including seeing the image), you have to connect to the camera over an HTTP interface that is basically one giant ActiveX control - that's right, an ActiveX control. This means the camera can only be really configured using old-school IE on a Windows machine. I really hope they update this (or provide other options) soon, as I'd imagine Microsoft will be making every effort to rid the world of legacy IE. If you can get past this, the configuration has a bunch of cool stuff. You can access more of the advanced network configuration, such as DHCP. You can change all sorts of camera settings. You can define privacy masks, setup alarms, manage users, etc. Luckily, apart from initial configuration, you don't need to be stuck with the out of the box software. I was able to get VLC connecting to the camera using the RTSP protocol and connecting to rtsp://<ip address>/cam1/mpeg4 (which was not documented anywhere, so I had to do a bunch of digging). Since RTSP works, I'm guessing all sorts of other camera and DVR software will work as well. The main stuff anyone cares about is pretty top notch. Great picture quality, night vision works, and the device seems sturdy and solid. For a $44 camera, I'm pretty happy. I'll probably buy a few more over the next year or so. ... show more
