  • Neat, simplifies hardware debugging, well worth getting!
It may not be the front panel of a PDP-11, but when you are trying to use your Pi to run external hardware, this simplifies debugging and builds confidence that your hardware works. Well worth buying. The catch is that it sits where the fans would be on a Raspberry Pi 4B, though the 4B will run ok without fans. ... show more

  • A lovely little piece of tech
I used the board in this case to make accessible the GPIO ports of the Raspberry PI 4B-8. This board interfaces perfectly in any situation where the GPIO pins array is accessible. This little board is a no-brainer. Don't think, just buy it. :-)

  • Well built non-intrusive connections and monitoring for your GPIO pins
Since Amazon likes to combine reviews for totally different products, this review is for the HCDC RPi GPIO Status LED & Terminal Block Breakout Board HAT. I'm not sure why people complained about putting this board in a case. It is pretty obvious that many HATs will not fit inside a closed case. This board will work with a male to female 40-pin flat extender cable if you remove the two plastic posts on either side of the connector. You really don't need those posts except to permanently attach it to the base board or another HAT. The connector works pretty well as a "foot" and you can leave the other posts for feet on the other side. I am using a Compute Module 4 with a WaveShare IO baseboard. This has plenty of clearance above the Waveshare heat sink and Compute Module 4. Although I can't close the case, I could file a slot in the cover and use a ribbon cable. My only minor complaint is that the signal designations on the terminal blocks are ordered differently than for the connector pins. I haven't figured out if there is a system to it, but they seem quite random. In some cases the label is the GPIO pin and in some cases it is the usual function, like "TX' or "RX". Probably it wasn't possible (or easy) to make a layout on the terminal blocks to match the connector pin ordering. With a little bit of care in finding the right connection, this provides all the signals. What impressed me was the construction. If this is built by hand, it was done very well. There were no cold solder joints, splashes or burnt lands from using too much heat. It actually looks like it was put through a wave soldering or surface mount soldering machine. The plastic posts could have been metal, but they're good enough being plastic. For the price, this board is a good value. I'm porting an OS to the Compute Module 4, and this board has saved me from hanging LEDs off of my board. It is also nice to see the serial port TX and RX data to at least know of the signals are reversed (one LED on instead of 2). ... show more

  • Makes life a little easier when prototyping a new application!
I used this to try an 8x8 LED i2C with my Pi 4 in order to integrate it into another application. This breakout board lets me quickly connect and monitor the signals for i2C, and worry about code, not connections. The indicator LEDs in combination with screw-terminal labeled access just saves a lot of headache! For male-to-male jumper wires, tightening down the screw terminals worked great, jumping over to a breadboard as shown. ... show more

  • Seems pricey but works well
I use this as a component to create semi-permanent connections for a few different components using the I/O pins I appreciate the small leds indicating when pins are being used and the screw connectors are fairly solid. I wish that standoff crew holes were more standardized in general because this part had different size holes than the RPi. ~$19 seemed pricey but it worked well. If I had another project that could use this then I would consider buying it again. ... show more

  • Works much better than expected!
I bought this thinking that it might be handy to have around but instead found this breakout board to be so much better than I expected. It is so nice to have screw terminals for all GPIO and power pins. Each row has power and ground plus a row of GPIO connections. Two rows have 5v and two rows have 3v. The only thing I would add would be to put 5v and 3v on each row. The screw terminal blocks are well built and grip the wires firmly. The board fits the Raspberry Pi perfectly and comes with stand offs for mounting the breakout board to the Pi. I highly recommend this product. ... show more

  • Very helpful breakout, but won't fit in any case
The Pi was in a case with heat sinks and a fan. Using the breakout prevented the fan from sitting directly overhead and reduced cooling effectiveness. With that said, the breakout board itself is great. Includes LEDs for all pins. The connectors have screw terminals which will allow multiple wires to be mechanically connected without soldering. The breakout hat connects solidly to the GPIO connector on the Pi 4b when seated properly. ... show more

  • excellent GPIO breakout board
This is an excellent little GPIO breakout board you can attach to your pi 4. Arrived fast. Packaged okay.. to be honest the packaging was all torn up and I was surprised it wasn't broken in shipping but it worked. It's hard to actually damage an item like this I think unless you overdrive it. I attached it to my pi and an Adafruit 240x240 LCD display then wrote a matrix style screen saver in python and it works flawlessly. I think I read it had led's in the amazon description, but seeing it's leds light up looks great and is actually educational. I bought this one for my pi 4 dev machine and am so impressed I will likely buy a couple more for other pi 4s I use in python automation code development. I couldn't be happier with purchase. Highly recommend if you're into things like this. ... show more
