I got this light to use in woodworking, as a replacement for the popular but not so bright Ikea light. This one has an extremely strong magnet on the base--so strong, it's actually hard to lift off the tool. The lighthead is flat and large enough to get in the way of seeing your work piece if you're trying to look from the top of the light. The switch is a fairly sensitive 'tap' on the top of the head, so it can get turned on or switched to a different brightness if you accidentally touch it, to move it, for example. Unfortunately, with the flexible neck, it can be hard to tap the switch without moving the head into a less desirable position. The flexible neck appears durable and is just long enough. The plug in cord is a little short to be able to put the light exactly where you want it, unless you have a bazillion outlets in your shop. The most important feature for me was the brightness. The middle of three settings is about equal to the too dim light it replaced, and the brightest setting is just right. The light color is on the bluish end of the 'temperature'/color scale for LEDs, which is fine for me and provides good contrast. Overall, it has it's good points and poor points. I liked it enough overall that I bought 3 more. My only complaint is the touch switch seems to be not sensitive enough -- sometimes I touch it and nothing happens. You can't press firmly without affecting the aim, because the gooseneck is so flexible. You can squeeze it, say with your thumb on the other side (the side with the light), but I don't want to get grimy fingerprints on the light. I do mechanical work with it and my hands often aren't clean. The spot you have to touch is not raised or detectable in any way in the dark, so I often tap it 3-4 times before I find the right spot and get it to come on. Give me a little molded-in raised dot or something. But I'm being picky. One whole star off for the switch is a bit harsh -- I almost gave it 5 stars anyway, but I don't give out 5 stars unless something is truly excellent. Call it "4 and a half stars"? ... show more

The magnets are incredibly strong, once it's in place it's own weight will not be enough to move it or make it fall. The downside is the light switch can be difficult to use and it randomly turns off for no apparent reason. The slightly longer neck and the touch control make this the best of four models I have tried. The LED head on this is nice, excellent dispersion and good solid light (no hint of flicker) to illuminate the part you are working on. I have this on the side of a drill press and it is replacing an older lamp (old school incandescent bulb) that I kept putting back in place - until finally this magnetic light arrived. All of the other magnetic clamp-ons were either too short, too dim or the switch was inconveniently located on the cord - far away from the tool itself. This design is just better/smarter. Purchased another model bit the neck was too short. This one was perfect. Magnetize to a not heated metal part and flex the next to the right area. I didn't think i would care for the touch activation, but it works great when your hands are all grubby from grilling.
