  • More accurate than claimed.
Material Type: Plastic
These are being checked against a set of Mitutoyo D6X manual dial calipers. The Mitutoyos ship with a claimed accuracy of +/- 0.0010" versus the Hardells claim of +/- 0.020" on the Amazon listing or '0.01" ' in the included documentation. I validated the Mitutoyos before checking the Hardells against them. Initially, the Hardells broke my brain; the dial makes a full revolution per 1". I'm accustomed to higher resolution calipers that make a full revolution every 1/10". Once I wrapped my head around that, the Hardells are surprisingly good. From my checks they were easily within their claimed accuracy and they appeared to be within ~ 0.001-0.002". I think being able to make a value judgements between 100 tick marks for 0.01" graduations will lead to more errors in reading by the user than measuring by the calipers. I do have a gripe, there's no differentiation at the halfway point between every 10 marks so it's a bit harder to read these quickly. Moreover, the resolution doesn't lend them toward machine work or "really precise" measurements BUT THEY'RE NOT ADVERTISED TO BE FOR MACHINE SHOP WORK and that's key in my opinion. These also have 1/64" scale for things like finish carpentry, pipe or bolt sizing, and if I were using these to check sizes of raw metal stock for machining, I'd grab these in a heartbeat. My checks indicate that they were pretty conservative with their claimed measuring ability and it's awesome to see a manufacturer "under-promise and over-deliver" instead of the other way around. I ordered these because I refuse to leave my Mitutoyos in my not climate-controlled garage and I'm not smart enough to read vernier calipers. For what these claim to do, DIY/ woodworking/ homeowner stuff, ALL DAY LONG! I was expecting flexing and repeatability issues and didn't experience that at all. I will say, coming from high tolerance calipers, that only the beveled edges of the blades made contact suitable for precision measuring but that's where you're supposed to measure and they are more accurate than I expected so we'll go with "that's a feature, not a bug". I'm honestly shocked at how good these are for $10 plastic calipers. ... show more

  • Meh
Material Type: Plastic
Dial for inches, not for millimeters - it does have clear white metric mm marks, but would be better if primarily for metric with secondary for inches

  • Okay but plastic
Material Type: Plastic
Calipers are great for quick at home projects. Made of plastic and have to be constantly calibrated, therefore I wouldn't take them to work to use them where I have a maximum of .010 tolerance on jobs.

  • Accurate imperial measurement dial calipers within stated tolerance
Material Type: Stainless Steel
I'm a woodworker by trade so i don't need my calipers to be on the level of those that a machinist might need, so close enough is typically good by me, and these calipers are spot on to their claims in the description. The tolerance is listed to be within .001 and when i tested it against my machinist's 1-2-3 block, it came back with readings of 1.001, 2.001, and 3.001. This is quite impressive for such a good value set of calipers. I have a set of $200 digital calipers that have a metrology certificate from Japan, and while it's nice knowing that i can use those without any fear, it's nice to have another set that i can rely on that are a fraction of the cost. Will they slowly drift out of tolerance over time? who knows, but honestly being as close as it is currently, even if it went out of spec a little bit, for woodworking it will be fine by me. I will also say its nice to have a set of dial calipers in addition to my digital ones, for the single reason that if my batteries die, there's no guarantee i have a spare on hand and i need an accurate enough backup, which these will do nicely! ... show more

  • It's okay in a pinch
Material Type: Plastic
Very hard to read small increments
Reviewed in the United States on August 20, 2025 by Amazon Customer

  • Great tool for a great price
Material Type: Stainless Steel
I love these relatively low tech calipers. They are easy to use and easy to read down, though it is worth researching technique to have a change to actually measure something to the 1000th of an inch. As with any calipers, a slip tip of the jaws will translate to quite a large error when dealing with such tiny increments. Calipers in general as super useful for all kinds of measurements. I use these calipers to set my bit height at the router table, or to check the depth of my dado or rabbit. They work great for super fine tuning a table saw fence for precise cuts. These calipers seem to be very well made. The movement is firm, but smooth, gliding open and closed with the thumb wheel or pressure on the base. The dial gauge is flat and easy to read, and the thumb screws are easy to operate. The calipers come in a nice molded plastic case to protect the calipers when not in use. Unlike many of my tools, I do handle these calipers as though they are a delicate precision instrument, though there is nothing dainty in the construction of these calipers. I’m sure they could handle some abuse, I just prefer not to test them. They are definitely worth the asking price. I think I paid 3 times as much when i bought my last set of calipers and that was 20 years ago. ... show more

  • Just pass.
Material Type: Plastic
Its plastic, which i knew. The dial is not accurate and not work with both inch and mm. The jaw is not accurate either. Just pass on it.

  • Sturdy and it's measurements will be "close enough" for most of us.
Material Type: Stainless Steel
Hard to maintain zero. You can set and lock the dial at zero but each time I moved the calipers out over an inch and closed it back up it was off about .50 of a 100th. That's not a problem for the type of measurements I need but for really precise work as in a machine shop that might be an issue. That aside, this is a solidly built and easy to use set of calipers and at the price point of $22 bucks worth it's place on the workbench. Now I prefer a set digital calipers given that they can be set to mm as well as fractions. But given the long durations that the digital calibers might sit unused, dead batteries can be a problem. Or I have a poorly built digital that has a micro drain on the battery when not in use. In any event these don't have that potential issue. And they're pretty sturdy and not likely to fail from the average abuse tools get on a workbench. 4 stars for build and decent measuring parameters. ... show more
