Description

Unlike traditional high build varnishes, our low build, hard wax oil is extremely easy to apply with a cloth, brush or roller. Providing a natural, protective, satin sheen to your wood. WATER RESISTANT, A minimum of two coats is advised to achieve a good level of resistance to spills of tea, coffee, wine and soft drinks. SOLVENT FREE, No harmful or hazardous solvents are used in the production of our hard wax oil. HARD WEARING, A scratch and scuff resistant finish that is perfect for use in high use traffic areas such as kitchen worktops, hallway floors and dining tables. It is also very easy to spot repair worn areas by lightly sanding the area and applying a further coat of hard wax oil, just in the affected area. HEAT RESISTANT, In our tests our hard wax oil has stood up to very temperatures associated with hot beverages and plates being placed directly on the surface. Again we suggest a minimum of two coats be applied for best results. FOOD SAFE, Because we only use natural plant oils and waxes our hard wax oil is safe to be applied on wooden surfaces where food is prepared and stored. SLIP RESISTANT, Slip resistance test BS 7976-2PTV certified. Suitable for domestic, commercial and wet areas (awaiting certificate). TOY SAFE, There are no harmful chemicals used in our hard wax oil. We are awaiting certification Suitable for use on all unfinished wooden surfaces including doors, floors, dining tables, coffee tables, and kitchen worktops. APPLICATION, Ensure the wood surface is smooth, clean and dry before applying Use a good quality lint free cloth, brush or sponge roller to apply Apply two coats for best results on high traffic areas such as floors, kitchen worktops and dining tables. Sanding between each coat is not always necessary but advisable for a smoother finish Rougher surfaces may increase the drying time and will require more applications to achieve a smooth finish. TRADE TIPS, On initial application, if possible, remove the excess hard wax oil with a lint free cloth as you apply it. This will help reduce the drying time. Unlike traditional varnishes our hard wax oil is not a viscous coating and will perform much better if applied in multiple thin layers as opposed to heavy single applications. • Beautiful
Results on my midcentury modern dining set I refinished. The table finish was missing in places. Easy to use and great results. Would use again.

  • Great for turnings
I'm happy to report that this hard wax oil is superb for applying to turned bowls, and is a new favorite. I have also been using Tried and True Original and really like it too. Here are some similarities and differences: Gilboys' is much thinner and, I find, easier to apply in small amounts. T&T being thicker results in a bit more wasted product, both by applying too much then having to remove excess. I find that Gilboys' really soaks in and has very little excess to remove. Gilboys' is a bit more forgiving, e.g. you must remove T&T excess within an hour or so or you'll start to get polymerization above the surface. Both have great finish results. Both warm up the color a bit, but I think T&T leaves a bit more amber color ... that can be a pro or con depending on the wood and your preferences. I've been dispensing Gilboys' in a small spray bottle, it seems thin enough to do this, but might eventually clog the spray head... You couldn't do this with T&T due to it's thickness. The smell of Gilboys' is not bad, but T&T has a genuinely pleasant odor. I like that both are all natural, low or non VOC. In any event, I highly recommend. ... show more

  • This is amazing
I've used a lot of finishes as I do woodworking for a living. This is by far the easiest to apply, least smelly, easiest to touch up, and best looking finish - oh and its the cheapest. I'm in Arizona where things dry really fast and I find that the product as it is dries too fast here and can leave streaks. I just started to thin it with about 30% or so mineral spirits. I wipe it on, let it soak for a few moments, wipe it off. This solves my problem of streaks. After a few hours or so I'll apply another coat. Depending on the purpose of the piece, I'll do 2-6 coats (less for decorative pieces/low use and more for things like coffee/dinner tables.) ... show more

  • Easy to use, goes a long way
First time using this product. It applies quickly, evenly, and spreads nicely, it goes a long way. It dries pretty well within a couple of hours and is best overnight. I’m using it on an indoor project. For indoor uses, I’ll use this over a polyurethane every time. It’s now my go to finishing product. 👍 ... show more

  • Good product, but poor instruction
Very good product for soaking into the wood and sealing it. Where it falls short is in the instruction of how thick to apply. Used on the side of a dresser. I was able to roll it out and remove too much access because it would drip. On the top of the dresser, it remained too thick and left an orange peel finish that I’ve had to sand down, remove, then reapply with a cloth. I like the product with very good finish if applied properly. I think it is best applied with a cloth sparingly with multiple coats to avoid similar problems that I had. ... show more

  • Very good to aply
It is a product that applies so good, that I used a paper rag (blue) and applied to all my project and it looks great. No blushes! No rollers! Very easy to use. I left it dry as per the recommendations of the manufacturer. One of the things that attracted me to this product was that it is waterproof. I haven't tested it yet. I want to give the products several weeks to soak and harden up. ... show more

  • Really loving this stuff.
I've seen many reviews of hard wax oils on youtube, and this is one of the best. Fabulous ingredients. Three coats give a beautiful, professional finish. Love this stuff.
