  • Good bang for the buck
Edition: Black
The media could not be loaded. This is a system that appeals to the old school gamers the most, but could also appeal to kids who are open minded and not obsessed with the latest and greatest. The library is MASSIVE! Especially for such a little device. My guess is there are 6000+ games on here, the game libraries are pretty well flushed out and it is probably above that number. These are games from all of the old systems, up until the early 2000, mind you the most graphically advanced are probably the GBC games but I haven’t even explored this thing fully so I could be wrong. I was surprised at the amount of RPG games, as well as shooters. The system itself is light weight, so I would make sure not to drop it, but it survived a 4 foot fall and did fine. It has a very square shape and the controls are responsive and what you expect. The battery can be a bit laggy while charging, but once it’s charged, man oh man, it can last awhile, full brightness was 4 hours, but that was with a third of the battery charged on the first usage. I turned it down to half brightness and got a 8 hr run out of it(over 5-6 days) usually 2ish hours at a time. The screen is plenty bright and has a nostalgic type of vibe for myself. You could hook it to a TV, I would probably find it awkward, but it’s something you could do. The sound gets quite loud, but lacks Bass, meh, I personally don’t care about that with bit music and soundtracks. It does have a feature where you could add different music to it and comes with a couple songs. I’m assuming that’s what the card reader is for. Anyways I think it’s lovely for my old school gaming needs. ... show more

  • Expensive for what it offers!
Edition: Black
I grew up in the 90s playing a lot of retro games on many different consoles. I ordered this console for reviewing because the description makes it look like an amazing device, so my expectations were high! I have played many games on this console in the last month and my impressions are not so great as the manufacturer claims to be. There is a lot of marketing gimmick going on for this console on this page, not all claims are accurate by the manufacturer, let me break them down here. 1. 3.5-inch IPS Screen - Not True! This screen is not IPS and is a cheap TFT display, meaning the viewing angle is very narrow and colors are muted and not vibrant. The size is correct, the screen measures 3.5 inches diagonally. 2. HD screen - Not True! 640x380 is not considered 'HD' though the resolution looks ok on a 3.5" display. 3. Upgrade 4K Ultra HD large screen - I do not know what they mean! If they meant you can connect the console with the supplied AV cable to your large screen 4K TV, then yes, you get a larger display with a super low resolution NTSC signal, nowhere near HD, leave alone 4K! At the core, this device runs some version of Linux which runs emulators of the retro video game consoles. The UI environment is very laggy and there are several apps available apart from Games for listening to music, view pictures, Videos and reading eBooks, I do not know why they bothered developing additional apps for this device in an era when high quality cellphones are ubiquitous. Rather, they should have focused on the core feature of making this as a High-Quality retro gaming device. The file browser has the "Internet Explorer" icon which made me think it could browse the internet also! All the games are stored in the included SD card and none of the games are stored internally in the memory, So I would suggest making a backup of the SD card. The games are stored by console category, so it is easy to jump to a particular console type and select your game. However, there is no way to create a favorite games list, that means if a console type has 100s of games, you will need to manually scroll through the list every time you want to play that game. Also, the longer game names do not scroll and makes it impossible to read the full game name. There is an intense blue Power-ON LED which shines through while playing the game, which is very distracting in dimmer environments. The actual game play is good, though I have noticed some lag in Gameboy Advanced games. The battery lasts a long time (4 to 5 hours) which is good, and the charging is via a USB-C cable which would have been a plus point if it worked universally with all USB-C chargers. The USB-C charging is selective, if I use high quality branded chargers, like Apple, Google or Dell, the console won't charge! but charges by less expensive no-name chargers. The unit turns on automatically whenever you connect it to a charger, it’s a hassle to manually turn it off. The 'Select', 'Menu' and 'Start' buttons are the same black color, and it’s hard to distinguish them in a dark environment. The Controls are good, haven't found a game which uses the Left and Right trigger buttons. D-Pad is on the bottom left edge, making it hard to play if you have bigger hands. The left joystick is placed well and is convenient to play. Sorry for the long post, but I still do have few more observations, but long story short, this device is good for some casual playtime though it lacks features which will make it more enjoyable, easier to use and a high-quality console which the manufacturer claims to be. It’s expensive for what it offers! ... show more

  • Loads of classics
Edition: Black
Loads of classic games from nes, snes, sega,gb,gbc, gba, arcade games etc.All the games I have tried so far have worked good and look good. The battery life is also quite good. You can save your game progress aswell.Everything works good so far but will update if I run into any games that do not work or any issues arise. There are a few cons however. The screen isn't the best and has a narrow viewing angle. Not a huge deal but, could be better. The included a/v cables are junk or the a/v port on the device is junk. When hooked up to my crt tv,it has flickering with any slight movement. Now,it is a handheld meant for on the go play so,not a big deal but if you plan on connecting to a TV often, you may need better quality cables. You also can not favorite games or make a list of games. So you have to scroll through a ton of games to find the one you want.Favorites option should be the number 1 feature with these handhelds with thousands of games. Its not as good as the rg35xx or other abernic handhelds but,for in the $40 range,it's a decent working handheld with tons of great games that look and play well. ... show more

  • Terrible screen quality and no search feature
Edition: Black
The screen is one of those old crappy ones where it looks terrible unless you look at it from the right angle and honestly gives me a headache after staring at it for more than 10 minutes. Software does not have search feature or even recently used feature so you'll have to scroll for days to find the game you're looking for. Aside from that it does what it says but honestly I would expect something this quality to be around 20-30 dollars instead of almost 60. I would give it a 3 or 4 star rating if the screen wasnt so bad. ... show more

  • Lots of games but doesn't work well
Edition: Black
This has lots of games to choose. The graphics are decent. The device is very lightweight so probably won't hold up if dropped. The buttons are a bit different like where we would use "A" to jump but on this one you use "B" to jump. Just a few odd things but still fun. E Update: This does have a lot of games. But for the price this should absolutely work better. Some games work and other games won't open and the device just restarts. There are much better options for half the price. ... show more
