We got this for our oldest grandson when he turned 6 this past Spring. I was looking for a camera because he had been wanting a camera for the past several years - and had gotten a couple of old model digital cameras, but they went through way too many batteries. Our grandson saw a polaroid camera somewhere and loved the idea of cameras that instantly spit out photos, but those cameras and the film that goes with them are way too expensive and they just aren't practical for little kids. I decided to do a used camera hunt, but most of those cameras also required batteries and they didn't spit out photos. Then I decided to see if there were any cameras out there that made sense for a 6-year-old and I came across this little camera. It seemed perfect, so we bought it. Our grandson was beyond excited! As far as he was concerned, the simple little black and white images are absolutely perfect! It's so cute to watch him take pictures that he hands out to family members as mementos, or that he puts into a little collection box, or that he glues on paper to make books and projects. He and his sister also make little video stories with it for themselves to replay later, since the camera also can make videos. He has had it for over 5 months and he is still very creative with it. Unfortunately, one day the camera quit working properly, and unlike other times that my daughter was able to work through after getting instructions for it, this time was a bit of a camera tragedy. I contacted the MINIBEAR company through Amazon and the very helpful and friendly customer service person worked with me until she too came to the same conclusion that whatever happened to the camera seemed permanent. So the company sent my grandson a new camera! He was so excited to get his camera back that he turned it right on and went to work. He didn't have the broken one with him when I gave him the new one, and he missed the pictures he thought he had lost, but when his mother put the original SD card into the new camera,...voilà! There they were again! So if you're wondering if I would buy this camera again, then the answer is a resounding YES! We have another grandson and a granddaughter both turning 6 this year and the plan is to get them each a camera also because they have seen the first one and loved it. Are the black and white thermal images perfect? To the modern adult eye that is used to high definition digital photos, maybe not. But to the innocent creativity of a child, it's amazing! The camera itself records the images and videos in digital color and those photo images can be printed as color photos just like any other camera. This is an actual camera, even though it looks like a toy. I wouldn't really give it to a much younger child, just because they tend to toss things over their shoulder without giving it a thought, then wonder why it quit working. That's why we're waiting a bit to give cameras to the other two. I also suggest going ahead and buying some of the extra paper rolls they offer through MINIBEAR. I think the three rolls that come with the camera will give around 210 little pictures, but a little kid will happily take 210 pictures of everything he/she sees in no time, especially while the camera is still new. Keep in mind, the camera uses thermal paper - like the receipt paper from the store - so don't keep it stored in the car or anywhere it might get too hot, or the paper might not work for photos. ... show more

This instant print camera is one of the best toy gifts that you can get for any child. It's so much better than any other toys because it's very interactive and so much fun. With this, they can take pictures, record videos, listen to music and play simple puzzle games from the large LED screen on the back. It will keep them busy for hours with so many things you can do with it. The best part is that you can instantly print the photos you've taken in black and white. It has thermal printing technology so you never need to worry about running out of ink. The print speed and quality is very impressive. I would go ahead and buy the extra 10 rolls of papers because they will love going around taking photos and printing. In fact, there's option to buy the same camera but with 10 rolls of paper so I would recommend that option as it provides much better value for the money. The built-in rechargeable battery makes it very portable and allows you to take photos and print from anywhere without having to connect to a computer or AC outlet. If your kid is bored or is always on tablet or phone watching videos or playing games, then let them explore around the house to take pictures and print them then color them with this camera. For the price, this is great! My niece felt so happy going around taking photos and feeling like she had a real camera. There are also a lot of funny filters and sticker stuff she enjoyed playing around with. So for usability, this was great. That said, when you actually go to print the photos, the quality is really bad. It’s cool that it allows you to print, love the thought, but it doesn’t function well in practice. For the price, that’s absolutely expected and maybe for younger kids, they might not care, but for 6+ I think it made her disinterested in using since everyone is so used to sharper images these days ... show more

My daughter wished for this for her 8th birthday because her best friend has one and she found it super cool. As expected, she loves it and treated it like a baby on our recent trip to Arizona ;)) It didn’t leave her site even if I asked her to put it away for photos I wanted to take of her, nope it had to stay around her neck! She took some creative shots with it after she got the handle of how to use it. And the printing part is of course the tip of the iceberg, so much fun without breaking the bank because one paper roll goes a long way and it comes with three of them. This camera is a really good gift for any child that likes photography and capturing ALL memories like mine does. She captures anything from the soup she eats at the restaurant to the moose we saw at the Grand Canyon to the self driving Uber in Scottsdale to her elf on the shelf that creates all kinds of funny messes ;) Memories that are priceless! She wishes that the printing could also be done in color of course, but after I explained that this would be much more complex of a camera and most likely much bigger and heavier, she was just fine with the black and white ;) The photographer in me definitely loves the creativity black and white brings along with it, it makes you pay attention to more than just color which I find wonderful in our todays world that is overloaded with artificial color effects. ... show more

    • This was such a hit, but both cameras broke the same day

I REALLY wanted this to work, and my 4-year old niece absolutely loved it but have had a number of things have gone wrong, resulting in an initial replacement and now a return of the replacement: 1) First off, the interface is VERY confusing and not at all intuitive. I spent 1-2 hours with this before gifting it to her trying to figure it out myself. 2) The shutter button is in an impossible place for a small hands to both hold the camera steady and click the shutter without covering the lens. 3) Camera no. 1 was a big hit on Christmas but broke the same day, when the shutter button disappeared into the body of the camera 4) Amazon sent a replacement, which also broke the same day with the charging port dislodging and becoming unusable All in all, this was THE big hit as far as Christmas presents go, which resulted in a lot of tears and frustration when it hasn't worked as well as hoped, and then broke (twice) now. A great concept but poorly designed and manufactured. Am now ordering another similar child's thermal paper camera now in hopes of better luck.. ... show more

This instant print camera lets kids snap and print pictures as much as they want. It is so inexpensive to print that there is virtually no limit to how much kids can print. They can print hundred of pictures for almost nothing. The camera comes with 3 rolls of thermal paper which will have my daughter printing photos for a very long time. Replacement rolls are super cheap when the time comes. My daughter likes the instant print feature but that can be turned off if we want. In that instance, the pictures are saved to the 32 GB micro SD card that the camera comes with. The cameral comes with everything needed, no need to buy thermal paper or memory card. It is actually set up, tested and ready to go right out of the box so it is super easy to use. The camera is also rechargeable so I don’t have to ever worry about batteries. Had trouble with the printing at first. Had to clean it with rubbing alcohol several times before it would print without streaks across. Then it seemed to work fine for an 8 year old. I liked that it uses rolls of paper so it’s less expensive than other cameras that or t in film.
