    • Real solid wood and ebony, swap the strings and it's a good beginner setup
This is a solid starter-to-intermediate 4/4 violin kit. Solid wood body — not the laminated plywood you see on the $60 tier — with a warm gradient finish that looks like an actual instrument rather than a toy. Ebony fingerboard and fittings are correct for the price point, and they're real ebony rather than stained maple. Alice strings are okay for a first setup but any serious student will swap to Dominants or Warchals within a month. Bow is playable but light on rosin adhesion; budget a good rosin. Deluxe case is genuinely a case, with hygrometer and bow suspension. Good beginner value. ... show more

For around 150 bucks I wasn't expecting much but I'm actually blown away. The sound is really good. Good enough that an advanced player can make it sound nice. It's super easy and quick to set up. First install the black string adjusters like pre installed on the smallest string. Then install the wooden piece called a bridge at 90° where the small cross line is in the Fs. Then tighten the strings while making sure to push in on the tensioners at the same time so they don't come out. Friction holds them in. Then tighten the bow until it's straight with the slightest curvature to it. Then rub the bow strings on the rosin until the rosin gets chalky looking probably for 2 minutes. Then your ready to play. It comes with a digital tuner that works well but I just tighten by ear at this point. Sounds great and is perfect for a first time violin. If you want to learn and see if it's something you can do this is the perfect set. Carying case is nice too. Everything you need for an unbeatable price. 5 stars for sure!! ... show more

This is receiving 4 stars based on how it was promoted when I received. I am glad to see that the seller has updated their listing. Initially, this was called a "Professional" violin kit. It is far from that. I do agree that it is elegant. Aesthetically, this is amazing, and for $130, I find it a fair deal (not fantastic but fair). For a beginner violinist, this is a great option as it comes with the case, which can be pricey sometimes. This isn't easy to tune - and the inclusion of budget strings was not a good choice in my opinion. That was my main beef with this being called Professional. The seller seems to be listening to feedback as it no longer says it's Professional in the title. The videos included on the page are great and the added tuner was a nice touch. We will restring this and get some good use out of it. ... show more

The wood finish on this violin is impressive. Easy to tune. Comes with all needed accessories. The case is even really nice and holds everything well with multiple pockets. What a great value! While the violin is delicate the case is well made and durable. This comes with a tuner as well. The ebony bow is so nice. My daughter plays violin and has this one sounding so good already. I know this won't be as nice as a more expensive instrument, but I think it's a good one to gauge interest. My girlfriend always wanted to play the violin, and now she is able to and very happy. It was difficult for her and I to tune it the first time; neither of us are violin players (but both are musicians). The tuning pegs have to be pressed into the headstock while turning them. I think I've heard of putting something on them to make them stick better, but we did not. I like that this kit comes with everything you need to try it out, and the quality of the accessories seems pretty good. The case in particular is nice, and the bow is nicer than one I got with an erhu I recently purchased. The violin itself makes a nice noise. I was able to make a sound with it almost instantly, and my girlfriend has already been playing some tunes. I think for gauging interest an instrument like this can make sense for the money. ... show more
