I bought a light kit for one of my printers, but when that same kit went up over 50% in price, I decided to start making my own. This stuff was almost identical to what I had received in the kit and for about the same price of this, some shrink tube and some switches, I have enough to make lights for 6 more machines. Only thing I don't like is that there are soldered joins throughout the roll.

When it comes to LED light strips, it’s always a good idea to opt for the highest voltage possible. At all power levels, higher voltage results in lower current flow and less voltage drop along the LED strip. Benefits include: possibility of using lower-cost, higher-gauge wires for connection; reducing the number of power-injection points, or eliminating the need for power injection all together. In my case, choosing 24V over 12V was an easy decision. I will be using most of this LED strip for lightning an enclosure I built for my 3D printer. The printer is powered by a 24V power supply. Since I don’t need dimming, all I have to do is to cut the LED strip to length and connect the strip directly to the power supply through an on/off switch. I tested this light strip with full 24V input; it produced pleasing diffused light that’s super bright. Although not required for my use case, I also tested dimming. One easy way to dim LED strips such as these is to reduce the input DC voltage. But dimming by voltage reduction is neither efficient nor precise. A better way to dim is by use of pulse width modulation (PWM). In simple terms, PWM in this case is just turning the light on and off in rapid sequence to create the illusion of dimming. The amount of time the light’s on versus off dictates how bright or dim the light appears. Flickering becomes imperceivable when the on/off sequence is done at a high enough frequency. I’ve seen 24V manual PWM dimmers on Amazon for less than $20; usually, a rotating dial is used to control dimming on these. To control dimming using a smart phone, you’ll need a smart PWM controller. If you’re into home automation and use Home Assistant, one possible choice is the QuinLED-AN-Quad controller flashed with the ESPHome open-source firmware (see attached photo). The QuinLED can control up to 4 monochrome LED strips independently. It works really well with this COB LED strip. One thing to note: when this LED strip is dimmed to around 60% brightness or lower, you can actually see individual light dots through the diffusion layer.

This review is on HAMRVL COB LED Strip Lights White 6000k DC24V and its uniform lighting qualities. What is a COB LED strip? It’s multiple Chip On Board light emitting diode packages on a flexible strip.. How does a COB LED Strip work? Unlike a filament bulb that wastes most of the energy as heat instead of light, the COB LED is very efficient at converting energy into light and very little heat is produced. What’s to like? The diffused light looks continuous. It produces very little heat. It’s durable. Smaller than regular LED’s. What’s not to like? It’s more expensive and requires an LED driver for it to be used properly which adds to the cost. In conclusion, if you’re looking for a very bright diffused lighting LED that looks like a continuous strip, then the COB LED’s are the way to go. It’s durable and energy efficient. Great for all kinds of projects. However, it is a bit more expensive. For this reason, I’m giving it a 4 star.

I've been wanting to install some under cabinet lighting but due to the style of cabinets, not having a lip underneath, my options have been limited as I would have needed a diffusion channel which would have been unsightly when viewed from a lower angle as it would protrude downward from an otherwise smooth underside of my cabinets, but I also didn't want to see individual LEDs from a classic LED strip. Enter the COB LED strip. There's so many LEDs tightly packed and with a bit of an opaque layer on top it's like having a diffuser channel built right into your strip. This allows me to adhere the strip directly to the underside of my cabinet. Yeah, some handy cable management and hiding is needed but that's what projects are for. The picture is less than half the area that the strip can cover but alas I haven't done that handy in-wall cable run yet to the other sides, so they're not done. Overall it's a nice strip. It does get pretty warm and it's super bright, so you'll want to get a dimmer with it as well. Useful and easy projects to keep in mind... Under cabinet, under bed, under vanity, even patio lighting considering how bright they are.
