Halo HLB Round LED Selectable Series Downlights are complete 4 inch and 6 inch wafer canless recessed lights designed for use in new construction, remodel and retrofit installation, without needing a housing or j-box. Ultra-slim disc design goes where LED can lights can't. Choose your color temperature directly on the fixture. With the flick of a switch, you can choose between 5 color temperatures ranging from warm (2700K) to daylight (5000K) prior to installing into your ceiling. This Halo recessed lighting fixture features an LED driver that offers 120-Volt dimming capability. The HLB LED recessed lighting lens provides uniform illumination and wet location listing for use in showers and protected ceilings.

What I like: It's bright, you can choose between 5 different K ratings. (If you're putting it in a closet, consider using 2700K or 3000K. I used 3500K and it is a bit too bright) and the installation was relatively easy! The quick connect connectors are easy to use, just push the house's wires into the slot. What I didn't like: I'm used to using wire nuts. The pre-attached quick connect connectors are something I, as a complete beginner, was unfamiliar with. (But once I learned all I had to do was push the wire in, this was MUCH better than a wire nut!) Errata: 1. I replaced an existing closet light. As such, I had to cut away part of my ceiling. This was easy enough with the provided cardboard template. Just something to be aware of. (Now I've got a mess in my closet to clean up!) 2. The color temperature switch is on the outside of the J-box which makes changing the color temp easy. I've seen other recessed lights that these switches are inside the J-box. 3. The J-box has punchouts. But I didn't utilize that, preferring to route the wiring through the plastic tabs. I used a flathead screwdriver to pop open the plastic tab. ... show more

We did quite a bit of research when looking for dimmable lights for our living room. These are perfect and are so sleek and appealing to the eye. I haven’t ever seen them flicker or malfunction and they can get pretty bright! Good quality, thin design and very light weight. Installed quickly in drop ceiling tiles. Used 6 in coffee can as a perfect template for cutouts. I love this light... mostly What I LOVE: It is bright and perfect for above shower (rated for humid environments) It has a high Color Rendering Index (CRI >90), which means you can see colors well under this light It has multiple 'temperature' selections, so you can select how yellowish or blueish you want the white light Note: Once you select the 'temperature' you want and install the light, you will need to remove the light in order to select a different 'temperature' so I encourage you to get the selection correct before you install the light It turns on instantly... no delay Improvements that could be made to this light (as others pointed out) 1) Wish they included a small plastic connector to feed your wire from your house through the aluminum housing, which is a required piece. I had to buy a ten pack, because I couldn't buy just one at my local hardware store (see first and second photo for the black plastic part I am talking about) 2) Wish they made the flange larger. It is only 6 5/8" diameter (see third photo). This means if your hole is bigger than 6 5/8" diameter in any direction, you will need to buy an additional 'Goof Ring' (yes, that is what they are called). Goof Rings are cheap if you buy them in a pack of 6. I couldn't find individual ones at my local hardware store. So again, a little bit of a pain if you are installing just a single light (unless your hole is sized perfectly). Once installed, I love this light... it really lights up the shower well! ... show more

    • One of the better wafer LED lights

As a contractor I install a crap ton of these in remodels. It's nice they have a 5 way adjustable light setting but in reality 99% of the time we always use the same setting. The other settings are basically blue or orange that people just don't like anymore. The junction box should be double in size. There's no logical reason whey it is so small. If you run more than 2 sets of 14/2 it's almost impossible to fit everything inside it, especially if you are using wire nuts - though they do come with the Wago push in connectors so this typically isn't an issue. These are also nice that you can install them directly over a joist or even ducting that is super low to the drywall. One problem I don't like is the springs are so strong that they can and will snap against your fingers at times causing you to consider a career as a sailor. Also if you want to remove them from the ceiling you have to be careful to pry one spring clip up with a screw driver or putty knife or you will blow out the drywall. It's the price we pay I guess to have strong clips that will for sure hold them tight to the drywall. Do yourself a favor and get one of those dust shrouds when drilling out the holes. Your welcome. I still prefer Halo over the china no name brands even though some of them claim they are UL listed. If it ain't broke don't fix it I guess ... show more
