The media could not be loaded. I am an artist and I personally only use professional quality mediums. However, I purchased this set and a simple how to drawing book for my son's friend who is turning 8. From my experience, quality art sets help kids get more excited about art. This set has everything at a great price. I believe on a deal I paid 18.00. What is great is it does not contain a razor blade but a pencil sharpener, many sets like this include a sharpening blade which is not suitable for a child, nor do I want to task their parent into hand sharpening pencils. The items were in excellent condition with no broken leads. There is a foam insert inside the case to protect the pencils. The case is sturdy and nice quality. Color options are enough without being overwhelming for a beginner and kids especially enjoy using metallic colors. The watercolor option is wonderful! Pencil quality, I can not properly say but looking at the pencils and trying a few I feel it's probably intermediate quality, much better than crayola but don't expect it to perform like Prismacolor or Derwent. It's really great quality for this price range. I didn't do a full on test because it's a gift but lightly trying 2 of each pencils I can say that the metallics were not scratchy but smooth and pigment was nice. Graphite was also good but I didn't push down enough to test lead for breakage. Water pencils are indeed watersoluable and can be blended. Eraser, sharpener, color sticks and charcoal I can't testify for because I didn't try them. I tried the pencils applying the least pressure possible to not dent the leads. The top pink and blue are water colors with just a touch of water, graphite is lightest and darkest value, gold and dark green are metallics. It's not a good sample to view on here but the mediums performed at a satisfactory level for me just by trying them this way. Art is worth investing in. I fell in love with art as a child and it has never left me. Therefore, I love to encourage artistic growth in children whenever possible. The recepient of these pencils likes to draw monsters. My son is really excited to give this set to him. Infact, once we inspected it, my son got inspired and got his own pencil set and went to work. I recommend this set to anyone interested in begining drawing or for children who are at least 7 years of age, any younger would likely not grasp how to use the shading graphite very well and that is a big part of this set. This is a fantastic set of drawing pencils that have watercolor pencils with a brush, has drawing pencils, eraser, pencil sharpener with a dual sharpener and everything an artist needs to draw. This set came earlier than expected and I am highly pleased! I'm a semi-beginner, meaning I used to draw in grade school, but never kept it up, so I'm having to relearn how to draw again, but still remember the basics, even after 30 something years, and I have found this to be the most perfect drawing set to draw with. This is a great gift for anyone who knows of someone either just beginning to draw, or someone who is advanced in drawing. It has a nice thick soft case that is zippered, along with a thin cushion inside the soft case to keep the watercolor pencils and drawing pencils from hitting each other. Love LOVE LOVE this. I bought it as a gift for my grandson. He was happy to share it so his sisters would work with him. The girls tend to kind of ignore the little brother. They were excited to see his gift and happy to spend time with their brother since that meant they could use his awesome kit. I started Youtube video's to teach them all shading and so on. The kids were all happy learning together, sharing with each other, complimenting each other, it was a miracle in a box! I bought this as a Christmas gift for my nephew. He hasnt recieved it yet, but I checked it out when I received it. The case is nice and sturdy, it's very organized, everything seems good quality. The only thing I will say, and it's not that big of a deal, is that the little paintbrush that came with the set was messed up, because the plastic protective piece pulled down half of the hair, so it the hairs are all messed up. ... show more
