I was surprised. Didn't think they would be as good as they turned out. Wanted something light and flat to take on travels instead of hauling my studio lights. Be nice if they could be brighter, but being LED I wasn't expecting them to be like my studio lights. But they were a lot more than I expected in quality and controls. For someone with a limited budget, wanting lights for pod casts or other video work, these are great. If you are shooting stills of people you can get away with them for portraits, but if you want to be working with full subjects, they probably will not cut it in the brightness department. A good buy if you can use them for what they were intended to be used for, video work of content creators.

This light has a great build quality and I love the fact that it can be controlled via an app from your phone or tablet. This is so good that I bought 2 of these. 5/5!

In order to use the app, you will have to disable your unsafe app blocker (if you have android) as the app is not in the App Store for Google. You have to make sure that your lights are set to the mode called "APP". Once you set the mode on the physical light, if the app still does not pick up the light, you need to make sure that your app settings for the GVM app allows "permissions for nearby devices". Then, if the app still does not pick up the device, you need to click on the word that says, "Research" on the device location portion of the app. This is directly under the settings gear. It doesn't look like it's a link or a button, but it is, just click it and it will find the light for you so you can connect it. Once you connect the lights, the app is easy to use. I really like the simplicity of it. There is an option for "scenes" that is really fun. You can have "candlelight", "lightning", "police sirens" and so much more. The light gets bright enough to be too bright to look at directly however you can tell it's an "entry level" light. For small spaces it is good enough. I love that these are lighter than my giant shadow box lights as I travel with my equipment. If you set one of the lights to "slave" then you can change both lights at the same time. Good quality for the price .

The light would have been great if not for the fact that the android app is awful. Not only does it insist on intrusive permissions, it requires your GPS location to work. That's just unacceptable and I never would have bought a GVM product if I'd known. Will never buy another.
