  • It's better with headphones, but still not great.
I had trouble deciding on a rating for this little amp. It's not exactly great, but it's also just twenty bucks. The volume output is pretty nominal, and it does seem to eat up batteries. But where it does a good job is when you plug in headphones. Obviously you're going to get better sound through headphones, but what's particularly nice is that for twenty you basically have an easy means to listen to your electric guitar (or other instrument) through your headphones so you can enjoy practicing without disturbing your family. Given how small it is, you can also enjoy practice pretty much anywhere you want with minimal crap to carry around. Ultimately I settled on 3 stars, because on one hand it's just not effective as an amp for broadcasting, but on the other it's great for headphone practice. ... show more

  • Decent practice amp
The media could not be loaded. Almost 20 years ago I got a mini Fender brand practice amp for $50 at a music store; it’s the beige one in my video. That was just a little louder and not any cleaner than this one. It didn’t last long either. You’re not going to find anything for much less than $20 or of much better quality even at a higher price. The volume is very low clean and still pretty low on overdrive, but I didn’t get this for the volume - I got it for the headphone compatibility. Once you plug in headphones, you get a somewhat better sound quality and can practice in private! This amp uses one 9v battery and also accepts a DC9v input, the same plug that fits most guitar effects pedals will also work on the amp, which is very convenient. If you need a practice amp while traveling or in small spaces like a dorm room, and you don’t expect studio/stage quality sound, you won’t regret this one! ... show more

  • Set your expectations low
The media could not be loaded. I'd have given this four stars because for $20 you really can't expect much of an amplified speaker, but I'm docking it a star for the fact that the speaker was rattling around loose inside when I got it and I had to open it up and fix the bracket before I could use it. It's just a standard 8-ohm speaker in a cheap box. It'll work as a practice amp if you don't care too much about audio quality. I got this to replace an ancient Radio Shack amplified speaker that must be about 30 years old by now, that I still use for basic audio testing in my shop. For that, it works just fine. It's bulkier than the Radio Shack speaker, but has a tone adjustment that the old one doesn't. ... show more

  • Neat!
This is so cool! My son loves it. Its nice when you want to play the guitar but don't want to drag your amp everywhere. The sounds quality is pretty good for such a small device. We really like it and you can't beat the price. Its neat for any guitar lover.

  • Performs well for what it is
This 3W mini amp is a starter piece of equipment meant to be easily portable and simple for beginners. I didn't expect it to come anywhere close to my LT50, just as my daughter's mini Squier doesn't come close to replicating my Strat, and my guitar and amp come nowhere near anything a professional uses. In general, you really do get what you pay for in this realm. What I did expect was something my 11-year-old could use while she began learning, something easy to set up and operate that doesn't take up much space in her small room while still allowing her to hear her guitar. This 3W amp works for all those purposes. It operates as well on a 9V battery as on a DC 9V power adapter (neither of which was included, as stated in the description). It’s a little on the quiet side, even with both the amp and guitar turned up to max, but that was also what I was expecting and hoping for as her sister sleeps in the room next door. Quality is as anticipated--cheap-feeling plastics, loose-feeling buttons, and a thin and rough strap. It won't survive a drop to the ground and likely won't last my kid through middle school, but I expect it will survive a year or two, which is exactly the time it will take her to decide if she wants to keep learning. By then, an upgrade would be necessary anyway. The sound is also about what you'd expect of an amp at this level. It's not anything you'd want to use to record or perform, but it has an adequate tone (less so when switched to OD), doesn't exhibit any delays that we heard, didn't produce static, crackling, or feedback in most cases*, and worked well with both my daughter's guitar on a standard cable as well as with a pair of cheap wireless transmitters. In other words, it's good enough for a beginning player her age to practice. *It is sensitive to interference, so there were a couple of areas (not many) of our townhouse where it produced static/feedback that disappeared once removed from those areas. Bottom line: The JUSTPRO mini amp isn't going to "wow" anyone, but it performs well enough to suit a newly-learning kid's needs. ... show more
