If you are planning a heavy duty use, such as covering a carport, consider a heavy duty tarp at 10 to 12 mils. Reinforcement– Tarps have additional reinforcement around the perimeter of the tarp to help prevent ripping and tearing.Perimeter rope– This is a rope which has been sewn inside the hem at the edge of the tarp to add reinforcement strength to the tarp.Hem– The hem is formed by folding the edge of the tarp back onto the tarp and then stitching the entire hemmed area.[Warning]Flammable.     • Very handy, durable, versatile
I often use a 6x8 tarp like a sled, to carry my mail and packages over snow and ice (or mud, for that matter) instead of wrestling things in my arms over multiple trips. Had over 4 feet of snow in my driveway, and it was so much easier just putting all the boxes in the center of the tarp, and dragging by one or two corners. I also find it easier to put several armfuls of hay into the tarp, grab two or three corners, and drag hay short distances to animals. Especially handy during Polar Vortex weather with heavy snowfall. Also handy in summer to move garden supplies around if I don’t feel like getting out the wheelbarrow or cart. Yes, they eventually wear out, but I get a lot of use from these tarps before they do (a wheel barrow may be more environmentally sound in summer, but I would still need a sled or tarp for these unexpected winter storms). Also good as a windbreak when stretched between posts or tied to a fence, shelter from rain or snow if pitched at an angle like a tent, or stretched over a hoop structure or fencing/livestock panel set in an upside-down “U” shape with stakes or posts to stabilize it and the tarp tied down over the frame. ... show more

This has been holding up pretty well. It's starting to rip and fall apart now, but I think it's good quality. I've had it over my shed roof, tied down using the grommets, for 8 months. It's protected the leaks in my roof and withstood some insane winds over the spring. Its understandable for it to be falling apart at this point, rubbing on the edges of the grambel roof and the ropes on the grommets being whipped around. It's ripping at the edges. The bulk seems to be holding strong for the most part. Soon I'll have time to remove it and replace the roof ... show more

    • Very Heavy Duty worth the money
This tarp is very heavy duty and much sturdier than I expected for a medium duty rating. The material feels thick, the stitching is solid, and the grommets are reinforced well so they do not tear out easily. It handled rain and wind with no problem, and the waterproof coating works exactly as described. The brown and green color blend looks good outdoors and does not stand out too much, which is nice for covering equipment, wood, or anything in the yard. I used it as a pool cover as it was over-sized and figured it would be easier to completely cover the pool and have extra tarp to weigh it down with things. Not even having it for a year, it seems to do okay. Once it gets a rip though, it's easy for it to tear even further, but the rip was human error so I won't fault it for that. All in all, it's a tarp that does what it needs to do, just be careful to avoid tears as the tear will only get bigger and bigger. ... show more
