I only use this on my stovetop to make about 3 cups of coffee at a time. Works well, hinge is a little flimsy but doesn't affect its use. to clean i only use hot water and scrub/paper towel, it cleans well like this and makes some good coffee! took me a while to get the hang of it but that may just be the nature of percolator coffee

Bought this for camping. Instant coffee works but wanted to go back to old school style. Hand washed to clean manufacturers residue and then brewed once with percolator then cowboy style. Only rinsed coffee out with hot water. DO NOT use soap to wash after using. These old style pots take a seasoning similar to a cast skillet. Your coffee will be so much better tasting compared to drip makers. Takes a few to get brew where you want as for strength and amount of coffee grounds used. Not super great quality but should last years if not abused. I replaced the plastic knob with glass, Tops Mfg Fitz-All. Also tossed the lid hinge. Flimsy and a pain. I'm happy with it so far. Can't wait for snow to melt and get camping with squatch again. LOL Oh, handle gets super hot. Use a hand towel to insulate when pouring. Watch YouTube for old cowboy coffee brews.

I love this calculator it brings memories back. The hinge on the top is not very durable and you have to wiggle it to position it for use or cleaning. The coffee basket has holes that are a bit large for the type of coffee I use. Bustelo or any type of Spanish coffee needs a filter in the coffee basket holder. You can use regular coffee filters and cut them to size or by the filters you see on one for these type of perculator.

For the price it is not a bad perkulator let me point out some things about it. 1) the topper is made of plastic, it can melt on an open fire and every percolator I've ever had seems to have this piece come loose weather just be sitting threads break it wasn't measured correctly this one same thing it comes loose after the first use. my recommendation is go buy the $6 glass topper to replace the plastic one it's worth it. 2) I see a lot of complaints about the expectation of the lid hinge, it is aluminum holding onto the lid braced against the handle not a bad setup it does need to be bent on to the handle if you plan on using it outdoors I did this and it works just fine. now if you're just throwing the lid off like you're the hulk to put your percolator filter in then you need to rethink your strategy when it comes to this. It will serve you well if you treat it well. 3) the filter it's removable, its aluminum and everybody thinks it's too small. it is not, you don't have to pack 2 pounds of coffee into a filter in order to make good coffee. This size of filter is mint for four cups of coffee. I ordered the smallest one I could get when it came to a percolator for backpack camping I have a jetboil but I like to use a percolator as well it's not too small nor is it too big if you set it up correctly you will have good coffee it is removable so you can boil water for soups, teas whatever you want. keep in mind that it is aluminum and can bend very easily not my preferred but it works. 4) I saw some comments about the seal on the bottom leaking mine has not leaked it was sealed correctly so I'm thankful for that besides the topper this percolator is pretty ideal for a couple or a single camper or just use it as your everyday coffee maker like I do as well as my camping coffee maker. The media could not be loaded. I have been waiting on this for a while now so excited to use it for our backpacking trip, it arrived!! I opened the crinkled Amazon box sitting on my porch hoping the product was in good shape, I opened it! WOW! It’s huge and I bought the 8 cup version, I am so happy with it, first thing I did was stick in the dishwasher, I approve! Super easy to clean, need a little wire straw cleaner for the percolator but happy with this purchase so far! I’ll update the review after I find out how heat resistant this awesome coffee pot is!
