  • As a long time Griot's fan, this was a let down
Let me start out by saying who SHOULD buy this. If you need to dress up your tires for a car show or for a car on display, this is a great choice. It provides a deep black shine that lasts for a few days if a car is not driven. Now, for everyone else, I cannot recommend this product. I have used various Griot's products for years and this is the first one I have come across that is a dud. I experimented over the course of several months and 10+ carwashes trying to get this to work. The tricky part is trying to use enough product to achieve a high shine, without using too much and getting sling. If you use a very small amount you can avoid the sling, however, you will get a dull shine that lasts no more than 48 hours. In order to achieve any significant level of shine, you will get sling! The sling then has to be washed off the car and it really gums up the wheels. I'd like to note, I always let the product dry a minimum of 12 hours (much longer than the 20 minutes called for by Griot's). Regardless of how much you use, whether you get sling or not, longevity is also a big letdown. If you detail the car on the weekend, the shine is gone by midweek. I've been using Chemical Guys VRP which has worked well, but I wanted a more glossy look. Unfortunately, this didn't fit the bill. ... show more

  • I was never one of those guys looking for super shiny tires
I was never one of those guys looking for super shiny tires. In fact I hate that look. However, I also want a product that goes a long way and will hold up to rain and wet conditions. This product provides on several points. It lets me get shine without getting to that greasy look that I hate. If I apply a light coat, I get that perfect semi-gloss look. If I want more shine, I simply apply an initial mid to heavy coat. If I want that greasy look (like for the car shows) I simply apply additional coats. I get to control the look I want. Yahoo! Yesterday, I cleaned up the car and lastly applied a thin coat to the tires, within 15 minutes, I needed to run to the market. At the parking lot, I checked to see if there were any sling-off from the product. There was not a drop of sling-off. Oh Yeah! Perfect! I will recommend this product and I continue to use it. ... show more

  • Wow factor!
I've tried all number of different tire dressings over the years. Most recently I have been been using Griot's High Gloss Dressing spray which gives a more natural satin finish. I wanted a little more shine so tried Black Shine. I used a microfiber pad to apply....this is a nice thick gel that gives great coverage and a glossy shine. I left my treated tires overnight, but didn't wipe off excess. Then drove the following morning and there was NO SLING WHATSOEVER!! Very happy. Can't speak to longevity yet as it has only been a day. I also imagine that if you wanted less glossy shine you could wipe off shortly after application. ... show more

  • Great shine but does not last
I used this for the first time and this is very glossy , which I like. I know there are people that like Matte shine , this is not for you. This is for the people that like the wet high shine. As with any tire shine product , preparation is key. Make sure the tire is clean and dry that will ensure proper bonding. However , this does not last. I would say in my real world test , 3 days at most when the car is daily driven. Not counting the first day when I put it on and let the car sit over night. This is plainly more of a show shine meant not for long term. ... show more

  • Super happy with this gel
This worked great. If you’re looking for a “Wet Gloss” look on your tires, give this a try. I like that there’s no overspray because it’s a gel. I put a generous amount on all the tires then went back in the same order and wiped them down again with a dry microfiber. I let it dry for 30 minutes while I cleaned up and I had zero sling on the car. A week later still looked great, 2 weeks later you could see a little less gloss but still kept the tires looking dark black. ... show more

  • Looking for a great "brush-on" tire gel? This isn't it.
Disappointed that Griot's Garage would put out a product that falls short of the mark. Since all manufacturers of detailing products seem to have discontinued their tire gel products in favor of "Spray-on" solutions, it's been tough to do a proper job of detailing my vehicles. The sprays really are junk; they don't hold up well and make a huge mess. I thought I'd found a replacement in this Griot's product but unfortunately not. First, it's quite runny so you need to be extra careful putting it on as it runs all over the place. It also sprays all over the vehicle when driving, even after hours of drying. Shine is pretty good but I will not be reordering. ... show more

  • Awful, major sling-off and a dirt magnet
Probably the worst tire dressing I've ever used. Hard to apply with a sponge applicator. Looks good at first, however that is fleeting. Two days later, driving on city streets, tires are covered with dust and dirt, this stuff attracts it like no other. PLUS even worse it slings worse than anything I've ever used. See the pics for dirt and the sling off, which is all over the back of my Jeep. From the fenders, across the spare tile and even up to the rear window! Used other Griot Garage products and they've been great, this one is a total dud. ... show more

  • One of the better gels
Good product from Griot's, application is very easy with a sponge - less than five minutes for a set of tires, and economical to apply if used correctly. Looks sharp - moderate shine that lasts through at least couple of washings or rainstorms. Also has a pleasant scent. Downsides - it takes quite a bit longer to dry than advertised - several hours to completely dry, and even then just to touch. In the interval, if you're very conservative with application and don't slather it on, tire sling is minimal. On the other hand, if you're of the "more is better" camp, you'll see it on the side of your car, but likely less than spray-on competitors. Easy does it. It also will stain shoes and clothing if you drip - as will most all of these products. The bottom line is, it's a fairly easy to apply, longer lasting than most, attractive tire shine that complements the Griot's line of car care products well. ... show more
