  • Great water heating solution for travel
I've never understood why campers have a gas powered water heater when everything else is designed with the assumption that you'll likely have access to electricity at a dock. Well I decided to DIY my own solution using this water heater and it worked out great! I have this connected to the AC circuits in my camper and it can warm up a tank of water in no time. The model I went with doesn't have temperature controls so I just let it heat up to the design temperature and then mix in tap water as needed to get the right temperature for a shower. I recently upgraded the inverter on my rig (so I could run this thing off grid) and it works perfectly. Make sure to check the wattage rating on your inverter first because this thing can pull a lot of current. ... show more

  • Can provide warm water in an emergency.
I wondered if I might be able to use this fifteen-hundred watt portable electric immersion heater with my five-thousand watt gasoline-powered generator. Before I ordered, I checked my generator to be sure it had the correct outlet to fit the plug on the water heater. I live in a hurricane zone. Over the years, in the aftermath of several hurricanes, my family and I have had to live without electricity for a total of a good two months or more. Our power lines were down for about a week the last time this happened. I had my gas-powered generator then and I used it to power the refrigerator, lamps, and for charging our phones. I had running water, however, I had no hot water. Cold showers before or after work are not fun even if it is a hundred degrees outside. I am more than pleased with how quickly this immersion heater warmed the water in my medium-sized stainless steel sink. In less than fifteen minutes the water was hot to the touch. In the event of an extended power outage, I plan to submerge this heater in a five gallon bucket of water and to use that heated water to warm a bathtub of cold water. Wow! It's been at least fifteen minutes and the water in the sink is still hot! I went to get the instructions for the heater because I wanted to mention that it can be temperature controlled using something called "The Intelligent Temperature Controller". I do not own this item but the instructions say that it allows the heater to be turned off when the water reaches a desired temperature and then turned back on when the water falls below that temperature. I had a choice of ordering either a fifteen-hundred or a three-thousand watt version of this water heater. I chose the fifteen-hundred watt version because I don't want to place too much strain on my generator. I also want to power other things like lamps, and fans, and the refrigerator. I am a proud owner of this Grillme immersion heater! ... show more

  • Very well made
This heater is really well made. It has a durable plastic cage that surrounds the heating element. The electrical cord is really thick which is needed since it draws so much power. I do wish it had it's own temperature control but for my purposes it'll be fine as it is and I'll just have to monitor the temperature separately. ... show more

  • Handy for me!
I got this heater for 2 separate but distinct reasons. 1) I only have cold water run to my outdoor kitchen, so I thought it would be nice to heat up a 5 gallon bucket of water to pour into the sink to clean spatulas, tongs, other grilling items. 2) I know this is silly, but I thought I could use it to heat up the kiddie pool water by pouring in a 5 gallon bucket of warm water or maybe even submerse this heater in the kiddie pool for a bit before the kids get in. This will work for both of those situations for me. The description was evasive about how long it takes, so I ran my own test in a 5 gallon bucket filled within 2 inches of the brim with cold tap water, submerged it, plugged it in, and started a timer.... 5 minutes: water was tepid on the top half of the bucket and still cool on the bottom half 7 1/2 minutes: water was tepid throughout (I used the heater to momentarily stir the water) 10 minutes: water more than tepid, but less than bathwater temp 12 minutes: bathwater temperature 15 minutes: warmer than bathwater, but not scalding (my target dishwater temperature) 20 minutes: too warm to submerse your hand I stopped timing there, but you get the idea. Notably, this does not have an on/off switch, so you may need an outlet timer depending on your use (the plug is lighted, so at least you can see at a glance whether the heater has power or not) The silicone sleeve around the heater core is thick and appears durable. I'm giving this 5 stars because, although the item description was vague, it performs well, and the quality of the construction of the sleeve and cord. This item works for me. ... show more

  • A Dependable Water Heater that need User Vigilance
This heating probe, let me tell you, it's a beast! It's built with titanium to fend off corrosion and has this cool anti-scalding jacket. But, let me share a lesson from my own experience - don't overlook user diligence. I hooked it up straight to the electric outlet and then, like any of us might do, I wandered off to get some other stuff done for my setup. When I came back, you won't believe it, the probe had sneaked out of the water, and that anti-scalding jacket? Melted away. My bad for not using a temperature controller with the direct plug-in. So, here's the deal for safe and efficient use: keep that probe submerged at all times and bring in a temperature controller for some precise regulation. Use it right, and this immersion heater can be your trusty, efficient buddy for heating up your water. ... show more
