  • Will Reach Boiling
My application is to augment an existing homebrew boil kettle for beer making. My kettle is only 1500W so very difficult and sloooow to reach a boil. I tried a different band heat stick and found that it stopped heating somewhere around 150F. Returned it and ordered this one. I have used it twice for brew days and it has been successful on both occasions in adding the additional power to quickly raise temp of water/wort and produced a rolling boil when this heat stick and my boil kettle worked together for 5-6 gallons of liquid. ... show more

  • Excellent
Water heater broke. This was used to heat up bath water...in a garden tub, lol. Had to leave in water for approximately 2 hours to heat up ½ the garden tub (then add cold), but hey, it worked. Love this thing. Who needs a hot water tank when you have this ! Seriously. Be cautious, you must keep it submerged under water at all times, if water evaporates, leaving unit exposed, it will melt !! This is the reason it has melted in other reviews, not properly following DIRECTIONS. ... show more

  • Solid bucket heater built for safety
This heater has a super heavy duty housing. Not that I recommend it, but I feel like it will take a decent accidental blow. The thickness of the electric cable is equally impressive. At 1500 W, it's the maximum power it could be without requiring a 20 amp circuit and special plug (although I've seen a few here that do violate standard electrical safety rules). It does what it's supposed to, heating 5 gallon bucket of water. If that's what you need, then this will do it for you. And yes, you can touch the water. It might burn you, but it will not electrocute you. ... show more

  • Worked better than expected.
I bought a couple of these to help keep my Koi pond warm, and they did better than expected. I have a pond that’s 6,000 gallons 30” deep, even though I cover the pond in winter the extreme cold lowers the temperature enough to be fatal to koi. The lowest temperature deemed safe for Koi is 40° F and today the water got down to 38°F. Just 2 of these bucket heaters and a small circulator pump actually raised the temperature back to 40°F in about 15hours with the ambient temperature as low as 10°F overnight. This is a 5-star product, ignore the low reviews as those are people who don’t understand electricity or have electrical problems in their homes. ... show more

  • Heats slowly and poorly
I really should have returned this, but I got busy and it git buried behind other things. Obviously I'm not using it. I need something to heat up to 5 gallons of water. I'm not looking for boiling water, just some kind of hot! After 20 minutes, this init only gets the water a little warm. The only nice thing I can say about it is that the plastic casing allows it to be used in a plastic bucket. ... show more

  • Not terribly impressed
Got this to see if it would be useful for emergencies, or in an outback situation. I needed to see if it could provide hot water for bathing or other uses. Since this was to be temporary, we didn't need a tankless solution. After filling a 5 gallon bucket with regular tap water, I fully submerged the heater as instructed. After about 6 minutes of heating, temperature raised from 74F to 112F, or about 6 degrees per minute. I wanted to verify and measure the temp change more accurately, so I decided to heat further and see the results. EXTREMELY IMPORTANT. You need to not touch the water while the heater is plugged into electricity. For very obvious reasons, this is a significant safety hazard. Especially if you have children, pets or adults not paying attention. Also you must completely submerge the entire heater probe, to ensure you don't burn out or otherwise damage the heating element. With those precautions, I first unplugged the heater after the initial attempted, then plugged in again for the second measure ment. There was about a 3 minute wait between heating sessions. But after plugging in for the second time, the heater only functioned for 3-4 minutes, then shut itself off. Seems it has a built in timer for safety. However, there was not temperature increase or improvement fro the first attempt. Never got the water over 112 F. The water was warm at best and certainly not hot. I'm not sure what the practical use of this thing would be, as it has difficulty heating a 5 gallon bucket of water after ten minutes of use, so trying to heat a bathtub of water would be futile and useless. The electrical cord is only about 6 feet long. So unless you have a use nearby the outlet, or a heavy duty extension cord, it isn;t portable enough to use. Then the inherent safety issues of not touching the water while heating, short cable, and of possibly damaging the heating element lessens it's usefulness. The risk far outweigh the benefits in my opinion. ... show more
