When I was younger, it often fell to me to mow my parents’ lawn (or one of their parent's lawn, or their parent's other kid's lawns). When I bought a house of my own, what I remembered most about mowing lawns was the maintenance schedules of the gas powered beasties everyone owned and the special tricks needed to get them to start and keep them running. Some relatives had newer, high powered yard demons that could shave the green stuff with gusto and some had old decrepit things with rusted decks that had to rest and cool down with great frequency, but every one of them was a hassle in its own right. By the time I got fresh gasoline and mixed it with oil and put that murky mess into the tank (and cleaned up the inevitable spills) and got the thing started and actually mowed the lawn, half the darned day would be gone in the service of maintaining some stupid grass. Once I had my own lawn to maintain, the bloom had come off the rose, so to speak. I knew I didn't want a liquid fueled maintenance hog and that's about all I knew. I didn't shop for options to gasoline because I wanted to leave a pristine world for the kids or save the whales; I just didn't want to dink with gas powered tools anymore. At first, I bought a reel mower; honestly, I don't know what I was thinking... any fool can see those things take a lot of work. I tried using that reel mower for about a month before I realized that in its own way, it presented even greater maintenance and upkeep challenges than my old man's rock throwing rust bucket. So I fired up Amazon, read a bunch of reviews and pulled the trigger on a cordless Black & Decker mower. That first cordless mower worked a lot better than the manual reel mower it replaced, but it presented its own challenges: for one thing, it was heavy. The second problem was the charge on the battery would only last for about half my front yard before giving up the ghost and took almost an entire day to recharge. I considered buying a second battery and swapping them out, but getting to the battery was a study in inconvenience and I didn’t want to operate the mower with the battery exposed. So now, it took the entire weekend to mow my front yard. If pushing that mower had been less demanding, I might have just gone ahead with the exposed replacement battery plan, but I was usually beat after lugging that thing half way around the yard. I continued using that mower for about a year, mostly because I couldn’t justify getting a replacement so soon after buying that one. In the meantime, I started doing the research to see if there was a better cordless option. Right around this time, I started wondering if maybe gas wasn’t the way to go after all, but the prices of a good gas mower coupled with seeing the trials my neighbors were going through with their own fire-breathing labor savers kept me in the hunt for electrics. There were a couple of cordless options around that time, but the pricing just seemed insane, so I settled on a well-reviewed Black & Decker corded model (MM275). I used that corded model for several years. I’d already had a good long extension cord on an easy to use reel (Quick Winder RAP-100), so it was just a matter of learning not to run over that cord. This is harder than it sounds, especially when you factor in the trees. I learned to plan my turns and my runs to ensure the cord would not be in my way and would provide enough slack to get to the end of a run before renegotiating cord positioning. Sometimes, I misjudged this and stumbled over my own power source, but I stuck with it and I’d have to say... this was a pretty good mower. As the seasons turned, though, I’d begin cutting my lawn later and later each Spring and less and less often through the year until, finally, I’d mow the lawn only when it was atrociously tall and more than a bit of an eyesore. I knew I had to do something, but I still didn’t want to buy a dino-burner and the thought of cord-dancing had become a genuine deterrent. That’s when I started looking again and became intrigued by the GreenWorks 25302 package. The pricing was a bit formidable, but I’d begun using an Instant Pot for most of my meals a few months previously and found my bank account had swollen apace, so I assembled my justifications and bought the mower set along with a spare set of blades. My intention with the extra blades was to sharpen them and replace the factory originals, then sharpen those and have a spare set to drop in whenever I’d caught a rock or whatever. Unfortunately, the spare set of blades came as two “Blade II” blades, instead of one each “Blade I” and “Blade II”. Happily, I’d bought them from Amazon, whose return policies are pretty awesome. So I pulled the original blades and sharpened and re-installed them before running the green machine through its maiden voyage. Several weeks (months?) of neglect had put weed patches the size of small shrubs across my yard. There were isolated thistles towering over mounds of something that looked like mutant clover clumps and the grass itself was thick, hearty and used to getting its own way. I started out with just the larger battery slotted and the mower at full height when I hacked down the first and worst weed tangle. I was pleasantly surprised by how easily the mower could be maneuvered and how little effort it took to push. After chopping through that first thicket, I dropped the height of the deck to the halfway point and got down to the business of dominating the flora. To cut a long story not exactly short, this mower kicked chlorophyll. My ¼ acre front lot is now of uniform height and it only took the one battery to make that happen. As if that weren't enough, the whole process took less than 30 minutes. Up and back I went, up and back, rinse and repeat until the tall stuff was all gone. I was initially thinking I might, at a later date, also get the GreenWorks weed trimmer with a battery and charger of its own which would save me several bucks over buying the battery and charger separately, but now I wonder why I’d need a third battery at all. Given the fast charging times and the miserly power sipping of this machine, I wonder if I won’t wear myself out before challenging both batteries.

I bought the lawnmower back in January 2020 for $229.99. It has lasted for over 5 years at this point and cuts grass as expected. I have no complaints with it doing its job. The only complaint that I would have is that the 4ah and 2ah batteries that came with it do not last long enough to cut my front and back yard without recharging them. Over the years I have bought more 40v batteries, and they are expensive. It is cheaper to buy more 40v tools that come with batteries than to buy a battery alone. As such, I now have many 40v Greenworks tools. They are all reliable, but it adds up.

The media could not be loaded. Okay so this review is for the 20-in greenworks twin Force 40 v electric lawn mower with the 4 amp hour battery and 2 amp hour battery. I was comparing this to an ego which my parents had purchased years ago and swear by it and I could not justify the price. So I decided to take a chance on this one having it been a little bit cheaper than the ego. some of the reviews are mixed and some of them are very detailed and there's a few that are basically a one-star rating and after weeding out the pros and cons of each review I decided to go with this so. If you purchase this from Amazon this will come on a truck it is a rather big box but it weighs from what I was able to decipher less than 50 lb. The box itself has handles in the side which are very flimsy and very weak I do not recommend that you lift the box using those handles as it will tear the box apart. Opening the box I was completely surprised as this unit was much lighter than my gas powered mower it contains the mower handle and a package with the charger and two batteries. This is very easy to assemble and requires no tools. The four amp hour battery took approximately 1 hour to charge the 2 amp hour battery took approximately 30 minutes or so to charge. So that being said, I noticed when I removed the 4 amp hour battery from the charger it was quite hot, this is not a big concern as it does cool down quite quickly and is comparable to any other 40 volt battery. The charger design is quite simple and is almost identical to all of the other rechargeable batteries it does have a lock so that when you insert the battery into the charger you must lock it in place you will hear click when it is locked to remove the battery you simply put on the lock button on the battery and slide it in reverse of how you inserted it. One thing to know is that read the instruction manual! With all other mowers you will pull back on the safety handle and then start the machine with this specific machine you hold in the start button and pull back on the lever once the machine is started you can let go of the start button. If you try it any other way the machine will not start. This is how I was able to narrow down a lot of the negative reviews that said that it doesn't work. People did not read the instruction manual. At first glance on the underside the blades seem extremely small but are quite sharp. I'm not sure if they are going to be difficult to find so I would recommend getting a spare set of blades to accompany the machine. And in one of the pictures that accompanies this review it shows the two blades almost rubbing together there is a quarter of an inch space between the blades so as long as your shaft doesn't get bent you should not have any problems with this but you will need to get the exact size blades for replacement to keep this quarter inch gap. Again the batteries are standard batteries and seem to be pretty decent. It does come with a 4 amp hour and a 2 amp hour battery and will automatically switch over when one battery is depleted. Although I do recommend placing one on a charge and the other in the machine therefore when one battery goes dead you will have a spare battery that is fully charged. It does have a great feature with one handle raising and lowering the height of the wheels. This is so simple and very easy to do unlike classic mowers which you usually had to do each individual wheel and sometimes struggled with it. This actually does all four wheels at once. Now when I tried out this for the first time in my yard I was very skeptical I didn't think it was going to do a good job but I decided to give it a go anyway instead of sending it back at first look at the undercarriage it looked very cheap and not well made but again I decided to take a chance on it. This cut through wet morning grass like a hot knife through butter I am so impressed with this mower it actually cut fantastic shaved about 15 minutes off of my normal cut time and was just light as a feather going through the grass. It was not loud at all in fact my dog usually runs from loud noises and he didn't even budge. To be honest my shop-vac is 10 times louder than this is. I will post a decibel rating as soon as I have another person to hold the machine in the on position. Once I was done with my lawn which is rather small less than a quarter acre. I noticed that the 4 amp hour battery had only gone down one bar. I had been out there using it for approximately 15 to 20 minutes in wet, thick grass. Now to get an idea of runtime I am guesstimating that in ideal conditions normal grass height, not foot long weeds, and dryer grass not wet. This should get approximately 45 minutes to 50 minutes of use on one 4 amp hour battery. What I do recommend is that if you are using this on a larger lawn I would highly suggest getting at least one more 4 amp hour battery. Anything more than one acre of land I will not recommend this for as it would be too much for this mower I believe to successfully handle. But for standard lawns approximately a half an acre or less I really do believe that this mower would be fantastic for you. I like to keep my lawn a little bit longer than most lawns in my neighborhood so that it will remain nice lush and green in the hotter months. Just so it will prevent drying out . Okay now on to the pros and cons. Pros 1. Is very lightweight 2. Mulches better than most 3 bag has a indicator indicating when it is full and when you should empty it. 4. Batteries seem to last a good amount of time and has dual batteries with an automatic switch over when one battery is depleted. 5 wheel height adjustment does all four wheels at once and is very easy to use. 6. Has quick lock release clamps so that you can quickly and easily fold up The handle for quick storage. 7. 10-in wheels in the rear 8. Batteries are cross-compatible with most all green works 40 volt tools. 9. Comes with two batteries and charger 10. Cheaper price than most electric mowers on the market. Cons 1 cost to replace the battery is on the expensive side right now approximately $150. 2 blades seem rather small and could be very difficult to find replacements for at a later date. 3 ABS plastic deck seems rather lightweight and could present problems if you were to accidentally run over larger sticks or larger debris and may not hold up. 4 quick release clamps if over tightened could potentially break if you're not careful and don't understand how to adjust it. 5. Documentation is not very well written and does require a little bit of common sense to read between the lines. It does not indicate how long the batteries take to charge. My overall opinion of this mower is that it is definitely well worth the investment and is comparable to some of the big name electric mowers on the market currently. I will update this review from time to time as months go on. The only reason I did not get this a full five-star review is that there is always room for improvement for example instead of having an ABS deck maybe make a tempered aluminum deck. Update. The decibel level from standing directly behind the machine is 72.2 Basically, the equivalent of a shower or toilet flush. Slightly less than a vacuum cleaner.

Original Review: Brand new and it won’t start. Followed all the instructions and it won’t start. Battery is fully charged and it won’t start. I’ll take it apart, repackage it, and return it, because it won’t start. I really wanted this to work, but it won’t start. Updated Review: When you use the proper starting sequence, the mower starts. I changed my rating from a 1 to a 5. Apologies to Greenworks. This was totally an instance of Operator Error (EO). The mower works great; clean cut, light weight, and easily maneuverable.
