  • Better than the cheap adjustable ones
Style: 305 Mm (for Bikes 22" and Over)
Good solid kickstand, better than the cheap adjustable ones, this is solid Aluminum so you can cut it off to fit your bike, I would recommend it.

  • Excellent in so many ways...
Well-meaning people, even bicycle salespersons, will tell you not to buy a kickstand; they will tell you just to lean your bike against a wall or a tree or a cactus... or even to lay it down! These people are demented. Do not listen to them. I am planning a cycling trip to Baja California, where there will be no walls, and I cannot imagine trying to choose between resting my bike against a giant Saguaro, or laying it down (fully loaded) in the sand. There are only two reasons that I can conceive that would be justification for NOT having a kickstand: 1.) You are a weight weenie, meaning that, while you ate a pound of pasta for dinner last night, you strip everything from your bike that weighs more than a butterfly wing. 2.) You are afraid that the lever-action of the kickstand, or the pressure of the mount, will bend the frame of your bike. So, let us say that neither of the above conditions applies to you. Let us say that your interest lies in enjoying ease and comfort (and FUN!) when you ride your bike. And if you're out for exercise, that extra pound on your bike will eventually work an extra pound off you. Let us look at the real world: 1.) You are not concerned about every gram of weight that goes onto your bike. Comfort means more to you than competition. 2.) You are not concerned that the lever-action of the kickstand will twist your bike's frame, because you are not going to sit on your bike when the kickstand is down. This could indeed distort your bike's frame, so don't do it. Older steel-framed bikes could take this abuse; modern bikes, however, usually with aluminum frames, cannot. Now that we've solved those problems, let me get on with my review. This rear mount kickstand works very well. Since I do have an aluminum frame on my bike, I opted not to get a center-mount kickstand, feeling that this one would better distribute any stress on the bike's frame. I was concerned initially because the chain stay on my bike is quite thick, but I had this baby out of the package and installed in fewer than six minutes. The only tools required are a screwdriver -- either slotted or Phillips will work -- and a 1/4 inch Allen wrench (hex key). All screws are included, and even two shims are provided for bikes with skinnier frames. Also, this set up comes with its own rubber foot; no need to buy an extra. I am an avid photographer, and I can't tell you how many shots I missed previously while trying to find an adequate berth for my bike. Now, I just flip down the stand and I'm taking pictures. In addition, I bought the Flip Video Action Tripod ; so now, I keep my camera mounted on the handlebars, and when I see a scene worthy of a photo, I either snap it on the move, or prop my bike on its cool new kickstand and use the camera's timer to get absolutely fantastic and blur-free long shots. My bike has 26" tires/wheels, and this kickstand fit correctly right out of the package. I'd give this product ten stars if I could, plus another ten for Amazon's quick delivery. ***UPDATE 2 JUNE 2012*** I just thought I'd pop back in after having used this kickstand for 8 months now to say how it still deserves 10 stars on a 5-star scale. I have tortured this device with some heavy loads. The rubber foot has just now worn through after all these months -- no big deal. I just ordered a replacement. I'm amazed the foot lasted as long as it did. When I shop, and when I first park when I come home, I'm parking on abrasive cement. Often, I have loaded the basket in back with thirty or more pounds of water and food (sometimes I've hit the 40 pound mark and I know because I've weighed the load). This puts a strain on the foot and rubs it on the unforgiving surface. Regardless, the kickstand itself is as tight and sturdy as ever, so as soon as I put on the new rubber foot, my kickstand will be like new again. PS: I load my bike with high and heavy loads. The bike has never fallen over on the stand. ... show more

  • A way to improve it.
Style: 305 Mm (for Bikes 22" and Over)
This is not a bad kickstand, but as sold, it's missing two pieces that will make all the difference. I've had to tighten it up a few times (every couple of hundred miles) and that was getting annoying. The reason I needed to tighten it was that the two bolts that hold the main brace onto the bike thread directly into the kickstand, and vibration shakes them quite a bit. This morning, I was getting annoyed at the rattle (again) so I stopped by my local hardware and picked up two stainless steel nylon lock nuts (aka Nylock nuts) to fit onto the threaded portion of the bolts that sticks out the interior side of the main brace assembly. With these in place, the bolts should never be able to loosen You will need two lock nuts, the size you need is #10-24 Coarse, and they should cost you a total of around one dollar (Home Depot sells them in packets of 4 for $1.25 or so). You will be pleased with the results. ... show more

  • Too small
I purchased the Greenfield SKS2BC Rear Mount Oversize Carded Kickstand (Black, 285mm) because it said it was an "Oversize" kickstand. I had seen the Greenfield SKS2B 285mm Stabilizer Rear Stay-Mount, Black Aluminum at a local bike shop and thought that it would be too small for my Schwinn Mesa Disc Small mountain bike. Unfortunately, this kickstand was too small as well. This is a nice, thick kickstand and the blister pack that it came in has easy mounting instructions on the back of the package. It only took a few minutes to install, even with the modification that I dreamed up. The chain stay and seat stay were almost too thick for this kickstand. I followed the instructions, but moved it a couple of inches to the left and just used the bottom three bracket mounting screws, that mount this on the chain stay, to avoid contact with the rear brake disc. I don't know if this would be a problem with all bikes with a rear brake disc, but it was a problem on mine. I used the thin rubber strips that were provided to protect the finish of my bike, but you may want to discard them if you don't mind the possibility of damaging the finish on your bike to be able to tighten the screws more. I used a plastic tie strap through the top mounting screw holes, instead of the screw provided, to help keep it in place. I know that I will have to check this kickstand before each ride that I go on to make sure it doesn't interfere with my rear brake disc. I chose this over the 305mm version and this is sized perfectly for my "Small" framed bike. With my bike fully dressed with my panniers, rear rack bag and handle bar bag (no front panniers, yet), this kickstand keeps my bike in an almost perpendicular position to the ground with just a little lean to the left. This may allow it to blow over on a good windy day outside, but the kickstand has markings on the back so you can shorten it to your liking by sawing a piece off. It's easy to get to, even with my Sunlite C-Sport Traveler 2 Bicycle Pannier Set installed. Just make sure you've got clear access even with your panniers installed. Overall, I'm pleased with my choice, even though I had to modify the installation. ... show more
