This is a very well made, VERY sharp mandolin. I sliced cucumbers paper thin, as well as tomatoes. Please follow the safety guidelines as it is surgically sharp! Keep that plastic blade guard for storage and ALWAYS use utmost care when cleaning. Make sure you use the vegetable holder (included) when slicing. I cannot stress enough how sharp this tool is. NEVER let a child near it. I love that it came with protective gloves. Instructions were poor and I had trouble figuring out how to adjust the blade, as the julienne feature locks. Took me a minute to figure out how to release it. I also suggest you store it in the box it came in. Within three minutes of opening the box I was slicing apples for a pie I was making. Setting the thickness with the knob was really easy and operation was super intuitive. The entire device is made of stainless steel. After use it cleans up quickly with barely more than a rinse. I suspect it would go in a dishwasher, but I have not tried it - just no need. I really like this mandolin. I have different ones before and they were plastic that just seems weak (and are going to trash) This is a nice durable one with simple set up. Easy to clean (just watch out for the sharp blade). I used it to cut potatoes for kettle chips. The slices were nice and consistent. I loved this at first but after several uses the adjustable piece that you turn for varying slice width came out and I can't get it back in. Unusable and no instructions. I don't know if it's broke or what. UPDATE: I didn't have it aligned correctly so it wouldn't slide in place. I wish it didn't fall out everytime you washed it but it works ok now. ... show more

Really like this! Has a dial to adjust width which is very easy to use. My last one I had to change blades which was annoying. It's extra large so I can put a whole eggplant or really large onion on it and don't have to cut it first. Good buy.
