This is a nice big set that would wow any child. And many adults, too. It would be great to bring to a family gathering so everyone can get in on the art and color, paint and draw together. You get a lot of great stuff, including coloring book and drawing paper. Have to say I didn't find the quality of the oil pastels or colored pencils to be top notch; they were a little bit waxy. Everything comes in a very classy looking wooden box, but a part of it broke the first time I tried to carry it and we had to re-glue it together. I still liked it. If you are buying for a serious artist, you might prefer to forego the kit and get higher quality individual art supplies.

This art set would make a terrific gift for an older child who is beginning to explore different art mediums. This kit comes with all parts neatly shrink-wrapped, which ensures that all of the small pieces inside the case remain organized. This product includes a nice wooden box that has a lower pull-out drawer, an upper section that is secured with two clasps, and a handle for carrying. Also included are a coloring book, a sketchbook, and a watercolor pad, all three of which are also individually shrink-wrapped. The case comes packed with cardboard protective corners, which should minimize most damage that might otherwise occur during shipping. Unfortunately, the veneer is still nicked, the wood stain, especially on the inside edges, is haphazard, the plastic drawer pulls are not exactly high quality, and when the drawer is pulled out, a pile of wood dust comes along with it. Additionally, once it is opened, the wood drawer does not fully close. Even with a gentle smack or two, it remains a bit askew. All of that being said, this is not an expensive kit, and the quality of the wood case is not inappropriate, given the price point and the other items included in the set. Once opened, the contents of this kit is are not aligned with the description. In actuality, it includes 24 colored pencils, 2 graphite pencils, 1 pencil sharpener, 1 eraser (not 2), 24 watercolor paints, 1 sponge, 2 paintbrushes, 24 oil pastels (not 60), and 60 crayons (not 24). The quality of all of these items can be likened to the coloring book, in that a young child would be pleased, while teens and adults would be annoyed. The colored pencil cores are hard, as are the pastels, the watercolors are grade school quality, and the crayons are the same. Next, while it is nice that this set includes three additional pads of different types of paper, the sketchbook has very lightweight paper and the coloring book has images that the average five-year-old would very much enjoy. The watercolor pad is nice though, and its heavyweight pages will be ideal for using with the watercolors in this kit. While I don’t think that the price point on this set is entirely inappropriate, it is marketed as a “professional art kit” with supplies for “artists, adults, teens, and beginners”. Out of all of that, the “beginners” descriptor is the only one that accurately describes this set. Furthermore, pastels are obviously more desirable than crayons, and the product description swapped the quantities on these two items. A 60ct drawer of crayons is not close to the same thing as a 60ct drawer of pastels. Given that the pastels were the part of this set that I was most looking forward to, I was quite disappointed to find that the product information was incorrect. With consideration for the incorrect information on the product quantities, the quality of the wooden box and materials, and the fact that this kit is in no way appropriate for professionals, adults, or most teens, I consider this kit to be a 3.5-star rating. Given the choice between rounding up, or opting for the lower rating, I erred on the side of math rules and rounded up.

This 143-piece art set really impressed me with how much it offers for the price. The quality of the supplies is better than I expected — the colored pencils lay down smooth color, the crayons and paints are vibrant, and the pens and brushes are decent enough for both beginners and casual artists. The color variety is one of the best parts; there’s plenty to choose from whether you’re sketching, painting, or experimenting with mixed media. The wooden case looks nice and keeps everything organized, and it feels sturdy enough to handle regular opening and closing. As a gift, it has great presentation and feels thoughtful and complete. In terms of value for money, it’s hard to beat — you get a wide range of tools without paying premium prices. Overall, it’s a durable, colorful, and well-stocked set that’s perfect for teens, adults, or anyone wanting to explore art without needing separate supplies.

I really wanted to love this set — I planned to give it as a gift — but after trying everything out, I have to agree with some of the other reviewers. The wooden case looks nice at first glance and feels like it should be geared toward older kids or teens, but the actual art supplies inside feel more like something for much younger kids… and even then, the quality just isn’t there. The oil pastels were the biggest disappointment for me. They don’t blend, smudge, or lay down much color at all — basically unusable. The crayons and pencils aren’t much better. The watercolor paints were the only thing that performed okay, but still nothing special. And while the box is pretty, the black plastic inserts inside feel cheap, and mine even started chipping after just a couple of days of gentle use. The paper pads are surprisingly the nicest part of the whole set, especially the watercolor paper, but that alone doesn’t make the price worth it. Overall, it’s a strange combination: a classy-looking case paired with very low-quality supplies. I ended up keeping the box to store my own better art materials, but I wouldn’t recommend this as a gift or as a starter set for someone serious about art.

The materials in this set are pretty low-to-averge quality and not really suitable for any attempt at actual art. The paints are especially bad, whereas the pastels are decent. Fine for a kid's gift or for someone just starting to explore making art. The case I got is surprisingly nice, though. I am docking this product two stars for claiming to be "Professional Art Kit Gift" when no professional would even touch most of these materials, let alone use them for actual art.
