  • Great starter GoPro for bike rides and car videos, but insane brackets and menus
Style: GoPro Configuration: w/o GoPro Plus
I didn't need the latest model and bought this used on eBay in 2020. The newest model is up to 11 I think. I had to get new batteries. The user interface is confusing compared to normal digital cameras and camcorders, so allow time to figure out the menus. I still can't remember which does what, so download instructions on your phone or tablet and carry with you. I had to buy a kit of all the holders for the camera, and bought the expensive suction cup holder from GoPro. WARNING - If you use a suction cup holder of any brand, also search for and find safety cords because too many commenters for the suction cup units LOST their cameras when used on a car fender, etc. Thus always make sure you have a safety cord tied to something. The visual image provided by the wide angle videos are quite good and they minimize jiggle the you are riding on a bike, etc. The worst problem is the convoluted double screens, multiple buttons and sliding actions that you have to learn. So allow time for that or you will get frustrated. For instance, right now, I found I did not know how to make an image ZOOM in. I tried "squeeze" moves like on my phone, but they dont' work, so I will have to research how to do that. They also use a crappy proprietary bracket system that is confusing and you have to have a degree in mechanical engineering to figure how to use some mounts. DON'T ever lose or mismatch screws from one bracket with others. Some are longer or shaped differently and it is not always apparent. But the video quality is worth it for situations where you need an action cam when a normal camcorder won't do as well. I also find that trying to transfer videos by cable is REALLY SLOW, so I have to take more time to remove the tiny USB chip and insert it into a reader and read the files that way. ... show more

  • It's EXACTLY what I wanted!
Style: GoPro Configuration: w/o GoPro Plus
I recently received my "Renewed" GoPro Hero 5 Black & am pretty impressed! It looked pretty much new. Not a scratch or any blemishes on it. It came with all of same accessories as any other GoPro. I've tested it & the video performance is awesome! The pictures are ok but it really shines with video. Everything is really responsive and seems to be well built. The battery life is blah. I don't know what normal battery life is like with these things but I'm getting a little over an hour use per battery recording at 4K. That's not great but still doesn't suck either. I picked up various accessories including three extra batteries with a multi battery charger. Overall I'm pretty pleased with it. I didn't pay an arm and a leg for it and the quality is really awesome after changing all of the settings. I found a professional videographer on YouTube who showed how to set it up like a pro & *BAM* it was ready to go! I would definitely recommend buying one of these "renewed" GoPro cameras. Just be certain to get it from Amazon and NOT from a third party. This way you know you're getting a quality product. ... show more

  • The Designers probably Never used a GoPro in their life
Style: GoPro Configuration: w/o GoPro Plus
I have to add a Star because my problems might be due to it being a refurbished unit—An original Model 5 might be better. Voice commands don’t work. Part of the problem is every time I turn it on, it is reset to voice commands Off. I turn them on manually, it still doesn’t work. Not happy with the battery life. No way to plug in an exterior battery. (A local news article was about police with body cams and how a problem is their batteries last only eight hours. THESE last only Two. Even when on Looping, it doesn’t loop. It stops when the SD card is full. I have to manually delete the files. When mounted on a chest or head harness, we can’t see exactly what it’s pointed at. I can think of ways GoPro could have simple aiming guides. Example, laser pointers, which some pepper sprayers now have. I’m adding my own. Oops, now GoPro OR a harness manufacturer will steal my brilliant idea. It uses up SD card memory with .LRV and .THM files. It doesn’t automatically switch to night mode, which is lame by today’s standards, and its Daylight mode is BAD in dim light. Switching to night mode can’t be done from the GoPro’s touch screen, so it’s awkward and time-consuming. There are many problems that “could” be blamed on the separately purchased harnesses, but sometimes the core issue is Where something is located on the GoPro. Example, the Battery and SD Card are accessed on the bottom, but that is where all the harnesses have the positioning hinge. Thus, there can’t be an access hole on the harness so we can change these short-lifed batteries. I have to take the harness off, force the GoPro out of the holder, and only then change the battery and/or the SD Card (which won't Loop), put it back into the harness, finally put the harness on again. ... show more

  • I really like this GoPro 5...
Style: GoPro Configuration: w/o GoPro Plus
I have had this Go Pro 5 since October of last year and I really Like it. I haven't really tested all the photo settings yet and I hope to play with it when I travel. I really like using it for my Youtube channel. but I was disappointed when I opened it I had to spend part of my day charging the battery. I expected it to have least 5% battery when turning it on for the first time. once I started using it I was happy. that's something to keep in mind if buying one used maybe the battery won't be charged. ... show more

  • Hero 5 Black DOES NOT retain its water proofing
Style: GoPro Configuration: w/o GoPro Plus
Everyone who does "extreme" photography knows GoPro as the standard by which all other extreme cameras are judged. I got a new one 2 years ago as a birthday gift and have used it mostly on kayaking sessions in the Mediterranean and on off road jeep trips. It always worked very well, apart from the disappointing battery life on continuous video at 4K. About a month ago I took it on another kayak trip during which the camera was on a vaccum mount. It got some splashes, less than normal as the sea was very calm. After about 30 minutes we took a break in a sheltered cove and when I tried to stop the recording everything went wrong. The screen went black and was unresponsive to any touch and the small front screen had condensation. Customer service wouldn't replace the camera as it was past it's warranty-only good for 1 year. Very disappointing as I expected this product to be totally dependable in these very unchallenging conditions and as it was never dropped or misused. Lesson learned ... show more
