  • Totally unnecessary, but easy install and works
Style: Connector
If your thermostat lacks sufficient power, this is a way to fix it. However, you can probably also fix it for free if you have an unused wire in your thermostat wiring bundle by using that wire to connect the C/COM port of your thermostat to the C/COM/24 V power line on your blowers control board. We only realized this after starting the install. I wish Google Nest had just told us up front. What is nice about this solution, however, is that it works even if you don't have an extra line. It works by boosting power on the Y/W (AC and heating) signal lines which the Nest also taps for power. The installation was also quite easy. So, $25 and some wasted effort, but it works. ... show more

  • Caused interference

When I connected it to the control board it cause my ac unit to make a weird noise. It seems like it causes some type of interference with communication between the board and a unit

  • Solved our Nest issue!
Style: Connector
We had an issue where when we were running the A/C, the blower would quickly turn on and off and on and off.. and more often just stay off while the outdoor unit sat running. We replaced the motherboard twice and replaced the nest Thermostat. Nothing worked, until this little device. It saved us from having to buy a whole new unit. It took two years to finally solve why it did this. Otherwise the heat always ran great... It only did it when running the A/C. ... show more

  • Fan problems? This is the solution.
Style: Connector
If you have a 4 wire thermostat cable and your fan gives you issues after installing the Nest this is the solution. In my case the circulation fan on the furnace would start up when the AC kicked in but would then stop after about 3 minutes. Installed this little wonder and problem solved. It’s very easy to install. Save yourself hundreds if not thousands by using this. The issue as I understand it is that the Nest uses the current from the system to charge itself. When not hooked up to the common C terminal it diverts too much of the current to keep the rest of the system running smoothly. This can cause unexpected issues that can be intermittent or permanent. Usually fan issues like mine. The only other solutions would be to either run a wire from the circuit board on the furnace to the thermostat or the get a separate C line that plugs into a wall outlet which involves unsightly wires running to the thermostat. Don’t hesitate - try this first. Cheers! ... show more

  • Sometimes works
Style: Connector
Got the device correctly installed and the device worked for a few days. After that it’s now hit or miss. Some days it provides the power and lets me use the app other days it doesn’t work properly and won’t give enough power to operate the app. If possible to go back in time I would have saved the money and got an electrician to install the C wire instead. ... show more

  • If you plan on installing this on an old four wire system (R G Y W), it flat out isn't worth it.
Style: Connector
Like many other people, I've been plagued with the sudden issue of my 3rd-gen Nest Thermostat experiencing low battery problems after years of it working without a hitch. The most common fix for this problem is the addition of a C-wire, however this is unfeasible and expensive for most people since it requires the routing of a new wire bundle to the thermostat. That means your only two options are either a 24V wall outlet power adapter - which is ugly, or this adapter from Google. Considering the amount of positive reviews this thing has, I hate to say that it flat out doesn't work. At least on my setup. The best things I can say about this adapter is that it seems well built and the instructions are well written. Beyond that, it did not work at all with my four-wire setup, which consists of the R, G, Y, and W wires. I triple checked my install alongside the provided instructions and the circuit schematic on the panel of my York unit and was still not getting sufficient power to the thermostat. I can't speak much on how this adapter actually works: I believe it supposed to take additional power from the C terminal on the unit and supply it to the thermostat via the existing wiring setup but in my case, it made zero difference. My suggestion if you have a four-wire setup like mine, just take your G wire (for running your fan independently of the AC/heater) and rewire it to C at both at the unit and at the thermostat. Unless you're the one person that really likes running the fan by itself, I highly doubt you're going to miss that capability. It works perfectly and best of all, it's one-hundred percent free. I won't discourage people from buying this product if they know it'll work for their applications, but it's worth looking into seeing what you can do without spending any money. ... show more
