The best feature of this practice mat is that it can be configured with different turf layers to allow practicing different clubs and shot. The short turf approximates fairway grass shots and also has holes for rubber tees to be inserted to practice tee shots. Longer turf approximates hitting from the rough. It has directional grain and can be turned 180 degrees to allow practicing shots both with and against the grain. The third mat has very short 'turf' that provides color change to indicate the direction of the club head at contact with the ball. It works reasonably well but it does shift easily with the clubhead impact. Still, it can be helpful to diagnose that slice I've been plagued with. It is the least durable of the three mats but has held up fairly well after 2 or 3 practice sessions. As other reviewers have mentioned, the overall thickness of this mat, especially when using the long turf, results in the ball being elevated about 1-1/2 inches above the ground level. After using it for a while though, I decided that this actually provides good practice because it is pretty typical to have a side-hill lie when playing golf - at least at golf courses where I live. Overall, this is a very useful practice aid that lets me get in some swings without paying for the driving range.

I ordered this to replace the mat that came with an outdoor net -- a few errant swings has ripped up that mat. The base is solid, made of heavy, rugged rubber. So far this heavy duty mat is holding up far better -- by design clubs glance off the base and avoid damage to the mats much more effectively that just a standard flat mat. The various mats are high quality, easy to affix and detach to the base. The mats attach to the base via velcro type material covering the entire back of the panel, so it really sticks on the base. $40 does seem pretty pricey for a base and some practice mats, I can buy a lot of cheap mats for that. But if you really want a solid product, this is definitely a good choice.

Good sized sturdy practice mat that shows your club-head path at impact (slice), which is very handy and rather aggravating. Put a couple hundred swings on it without any issues, stores easily or can stay outdoors.

This is a great hitting mat. We live on a golf course and have a fairway right outside our backyard. My boys like to hit balls from our yard to the fairway (after the twilight groups have already passed by) and they really destroy my lawn doing that. We saw this mat and figured it'd help save our lawn. Sure enough, it's great! It's small enough to store easily and big enough to hit off of accurately. The interchangeable mats are wonderful for extra practice. This set seems sturdy and likely to last many years.

The mat has 3 surfaces that can be easily switched. The different surfaces are held in place to a hard plastic base by 4 velcro strips around the perimeter. The surfaces are strong and sturdy. The fairway mat has two shade of green, dark and light, to highlight the club head path. The size of the mat is adequate for practice.

I absolutely love the practice mat that this set came with. I love how it tracks my swing and impact. It definitely shows me where I need to make improvements on my swing. Now I just need to practice, practice, practice to get that perfect swing.
