I use these to give my cats something to chase from time to time. The purple color comes out more or less depending on what it's shining on, from purple to more of a whitish-pink. The color of surfaces also make a difference on how bright the light is. Overall the beam is much thinner and dimmer than your average riffle scope and dot isn't very sharp, it looks out of focus versus most laser lights have a hard sharp circle.
