Very cute little tank. I set it up for my Betta. It is way too small for glofish as advertised, please look up what these fish actually need to thrive. However, the tank itself is a decent one. I really like this 6-gallon kit. It was easy to set up and comes with many of the things you will need for an initial tank set up (except a heater.) I am using mine for a male Betta, and it works very well. I love that it is glass, instead of plastic. Glass tanks will last many years with good care. I don't have the Glo-Fish decorations, but if you have those, the lighting will create a nice effect with them. I am using regular green plastic plant decor, and it looks very nice. This will be a great starter kit for someone brand new to fish-keeping. It also makes a perfect additional tank (or hospital tank) for those of us who already have aquarium(s.) The kit includes a lid, lights, a stick on thermometer, small Tetra filter, water conditioner, and some food. (Adding a heater is recommended for most tropical fish. That is something you can add without too much added expense, as a small lower wattage heater for this size of tank would work just fine for a tank this size.) The filter it comes with will work fine, unless you have more than one fish; and then you might consider a slightly larger filter, or adding a second small filter. I like to "hack" my filters, by replacing the cartridges with filter sponge material and those little clay balls made for aquarium filter. (There are many helpful YouTube videos about how to increase the effectiveness of a filter by doing this; and, you will save a lot of money in the long-run by not having to continually buy replacement cartridges. This method provides mores surface area for beneficial bacteria, thus establishing a biological filter system.) I really like the size of a 6 gallon aquarium. It is nice to have something slightly larger than a 5 gallon, and yet it is not too heavy to handle when you are setting it up and finding a good spot for it. If you are new to this hobby, this will be a good tank kit for you! A few "Beginners tips" for success: 1) Very important -- make sure that you don't put too many fish in a smaller tank such as this. It is very easy (and tempting) to overload an aquarium with too many fish, which can quickly lead to dire problems, thus discouraging new enthusiasts just getting into to the hobby. For this tank, I recommend a single male Betta, as a "beginner" fish, and this tank is ideal for a single male Betta. They are wonderful, beautiful, and quite personable little fish. If you would prefer having more than one fish, you could, instead, house a small group of 2-3 female Bettas in this tank. (They don't have long fancy fins, like the males, but they can live in little groups, unlike the males.) Another option for this tank would be a small school of 3-5 Tetras. The tank would also be a good option for housing shrimp or Sea Monkeys (but you cannot use this type of filter with shrimp or sea monkeys, as it would suck them up. (Again, check You Tube for advice on housing shrimp or Sea Monkeys.) 2) The best way to ensure success with a new aquarium is to let it run for a week or two before adding any fish, so that the the nitrogen cycle has a chance to get established before introducing them; and then, only introduce one fish at a time. This waiting period is very hard to do, as we are excited and eager to bring home our new fish friends, but this period of "establishment" time for a new tank is extremely important. I have learned this lesson the hard way, and almost lost the fish as a result; so that is why I mention it! 3) Avoid overfeeding. This seems like an obvious suggestion, but it is pretty easy to accidentally do. (Fish quickly learn to become quite cute little beggars!) Just make sure you only feed enough that the fish can consume the food in 3-5 minutes. If there is leftover food, try to remove it with a net or a turkey-baster, so that it doesn't sit on the bottom, uneaten. 4) I recommend getting a floating feeding ring, which are very inexpensive. They attach to the side with a suction cup, and they allow the food to stay consolidated in one spot and float longer on the surface, resulting in less food falling to the bottom. Fish quickly learn to go over to the ring to look for their snack, so less food is wasted. It makes it easier to remove uneaten food that does make it to the bottom because it falls right underneath the ring, so you can quickly find it. If you don't want to buy one of these, I have made one by making a ring shape out of airline tubing; so you can find a creative way to make one! These are just some things I have learned and I hope they help someone who is just getting interested in the fun hobby of fish-keeping! Have fun with your new aquarium! ... show more

Well packaged and nice starter tank set for either fishes or if you wanted to keep a small lizard, to turn it into a terrarium. I have had larger tanks in the past but I now am okay with a smaller tank. It comes with the basics and the most important things is the filter system, so I may look into upgrading to a higher quality one in the future. The light is decent. Would make a good gift for a child to get them interested in keeping fish as pets. ... show more

Got this tank for my betta fish and it's the perfect size! It only took me a few minutes to assemble and get it set up. I love that it came with the Tetra Whisper filter. It's such a quiet filter and it keeps my tank very well filtered. The lights are the perfect brightness and makes the tank glow beautifully. I am very happy with the overall quality of this take.
