  • Excellent toy for an excellent game!
Snap Ships Tactics is one of the coolest table top game systems out there for any age - it’s like Legos meets X-Wing - table top miniatures game. This little toy is really fun to assemble in various configurations, especially for the price and will be an excellent addition to the tactical game!

  • 2020 has sucked. But we did get Snap Ships!
This building system is amazing. It is very easy to put together a detailed science fiction vehicle. While most sets have instructions for more than one out-of-box model, my favorite activity is creating my own ships. You can build an attractive little mini-ship with 5 pieces in under 10 seconds. Or you can spend hours designing complicated, grandiose battleships. The designers developed a very elegant cuboid block system reminiscent of Zoids Blox, but with the the connecting peg attached to the primary block type. In its simplest form, you build a basic structure with the blocks and use a dizzying array of connectors and panels to camouflage the blocks and create a well-defined model that doesn't look like a building set. This was obviously a labor of love for the designers and manufacturer. There is a veritable buffet of parts that touch on classic science fiction vehicle elements: -Thrusters? Check! at least 5 different types -High-tech weapons? possibly a couple dozen death-dealing blasters! -Wings that look cool but are irrelevant in space ? Check! -Missile launchers? Several varieties of detailed missile launchers and "toyetic" launchers that really shoot! -Various undefined greeblies that allow you to imagine a high-tech function? Check! -At least 5 different cockpit types -Nicely sculpted 1-inch figures to staff your creation. There are distinctive design styles for each of the 2 warring factions. The "good guys" have very familiar grey and blue clean-lined parts that borrow from Star Wars, Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica, etc. The "bad guys" have a black and magenta insectoid motif with menacing wings and pincers. The attractively textured packaging lid doubles as a display stand. While I've not tried the associated smartphone app, it looks pretty sweet from what I've seen. Cons: These toys are easy for kids to use but the detail is good enough for a grownup. This also means that some pieces are kind of sharp - case in point being the Gladius 9-missile panels. I would use the prying tool to push these into the blocks and warn your kids not to simply "thumb" them in. Worse than stepping on a lego brick. Some of the pieces are brittle - we've snapped a few missiles in half, and a number of the guns have broken off. Despite these criticisms, as a geeky adult I am engrossed in this toy. My 7-year-old and I give each other building ideas and fight for pieces so much I've had to buy a bunch of sets to keep up with our demand for pieces! I love trying to push the boundaries on how to combine the parts in novel ways. ... show more

  • How good the toy is
I got this a day ago and I do personally love it quite a bit as it's a fun build and takes a little bit to do but it's fun when you finally finish it it is super fun to play with the nice Play features where you can drop them over is very nice good playability I have dropped it a few times and it has not broken apart and not to mention that the build looks absolutely amazing am I to mention the value either it's cheap and let's say like a Lego set would cause pry 100 bucks for something like this so I'm surprised how cheap it was and not to mention how big it was too from the photos it look like it'd be kind of small but it's a big and I like that about it because that makes it have more playability I would most definitely buy more. ... show more

  • I'm 40 and I bought this for myself.
Where were these when I was a kid? I bought this on impulse for less than $20 and it's the best money I've spent in awhile. This toy is seriously heavy, I can't imagine how they make money on this amount of plastic for so little money. The value is out of control. It was super fun to assemble, complicated enough to be fun but simple enough to be easy to follow. The instructions were well thought out and aside from one minor error, there was no issue. Even the error was a simple coloring issue I think and didn't change anything. These things are super well designed, the engineers who came up with them should be hired by NASA, the end result is surprisingly sturdy and super fun. I followed the instructions but you could easily let your imagination guide you in the same vein as your favorite assembly blocks from Denmark. Comes with an option flight stand and base, which is also cleverly the top of the packaging. I have never seen these in stores and I don't understand why. Even the packaging and is well designed and handsome and the assembly book is one of the best I've ever seen. Comes with 2 figures, slightly smaller than 1/72 scale. I will be buying more of this line and for this price I suggest you do too. Makes a fun project to do with the kids, or just a cheap way to entertain a grown man child like myself. 10/10 ... show more

  • Plastic is Brittle and Pieces Break Easily
We have several of these sets. My 7yo son was so excited to pick this one. It's like the others except that several of the pieces have broken. The plastic is very brittle compared to his other sets which we haven't had any pieces break. He's pretty gentle with his toys and one piece broke while he was holding it on his lap watching a cartoon. As for the build itsef, the cab of the rover is slightly too large to allow the rover to fit snugly into its spot. It does fit but only just, and not amazingly. We plan on introducing him to the game eventually but it's a bummer some of the main components have already broken. This is his current favorite toy. Even his little sister likes it. He can follow all the instructions for building without any help. I would say he might like them better than lego, and he loves legos. It would be 5 stars if not for the brittle plastic. ... show more
