  • Great for flexibility, not optimized for warmth.
Size: Large
Went to Alaska on the Kenai River in mid Sept. One day the gloves barely helped with warmth. Heavy fog around 7am to 8am. It was 40 degrees that morning with a real feel of maybe lower. The rest of the week it was in the 40s in the morning and the gloves did okay to protect me from the cold. As a California boy the cold was manageable in the gloves, to take into account I left Cali when it was 98 degrees and dropped to 40 degrees in Alaska. I don’t do well with the cold so take that into consideration. The velcro that holds the finger tips you can flip back is not too reliable and can see it failing later with use. Was also hard to get it to stick sometimes. Very slim strips to get it right the first time! The natural curve of the fingers made them very easy to handle things. One thing that was slightly annoying was if you are constantly needing to take your gloves off even for a quick second you need to unravel the wrist Velcro straps and then re wrap them when you put them back on. I understand they are trapping heat in but a couple of times we got lines twisted up and having to rapidly take those things off in a time crunch to fix it was annoying. Overall I am keeping them for more trips. I got these for flexibility while fishing, not warmth. I give them a 4 out of 5 because there is always room for improvement. ... show more

  • Just right for my purpose
I got these for for cold-weather radio-controlled (RC) flying. Regular gloves -- no matter the material or thickness -- don't allow the precise fingertip sensitivity that you want in the thumbs and forefingers in order to work the RC controls. These slit-finger gloves are just the ticket! Besides that, they're pretty comfortable and warm. (Haven't tried them yet in EXTREME cold, but I think they'd do fairly well. And, if needed, I could add a thin inner liner for extra warmth -- with the tips of the thumb and forefinger cut off.) Mine have no weird smell, mentioned by another reviewer. They do smell like what they are - neoprene - but IMO that's noticeable only if you put them right up to your nose. I'm a scuba diver, with a full neoprene wetsuit, so I'm used to the smell (and worse, if you know what I mean!). Maybe some people are especially sensitive to it, so that reviewer's comment is understandable. These might not stand up to use as heavy-duty work gloves. But that's not what I got them for, and I don't intend to put them to that test. ... show more

  • Snags a lot on clothes and other lines
Size: Medium
It is warm even when wet and is quite easy to stretch however use is quite frustrating. The fit is very loose around the open finger and thumb even without opening up, allowing a lot of moisture to penetrate. Approximately a full pinky of looseness without any stretch Also the hook and loop is far too long, even with locked, the extra hook material snags on all fabrics like shirts and lines, should have much more limited portion of hook material Exposed hook material on fiber and thumb also snags commonly ... show more

  • Warm hands
Size: Medium
Wanted a glove for the spring and fall fishing trip in the high-country. These worked well to hold some heat when your hands get wet. The open fingers make it easier to handle line and tie on flys. The bulk in the palms took some getting used to, but better than being bare-handed when days are chilly and the fish are biting. I've tried many types of gloves from rag wool, polar fleece and neoprene and they each have their place. These helped on cold days just to keep from going numb, but don't expect them to keep you "indoors warm". If that's what you want, stay indoors ;-) ... show more

  • Runs big
Size: Large
Seem to run big. Always buy Large but these fit more like an extra Large. Good quality.

  • Warm at 32F, freezing cold at -14 F but sloppy all the time
Size: X-Large
I know I can't go a size down because the wrist is actually small but I felt like the finger tips were loose. All of the tips made it impossible to do anything unless you exposed your index. As far as that feature it seemed to come undone often just walking around. The warmth worked well at 30 F in Kansas but at -14 F in Alaska, I felt freezing cold compared to the ski mittens. Because the sloppiness I felt like it was easier for me to remove my ski mittens and put them back on than to mess with the spongy nature of these. I'm going to keep them with one change, I'm making it all fingerless. That defeats the original purpose but they do keep the hand warm in 32 F wet, just not -14 F wet. ... show more

  • Very comfortable and warm during the cold months.
Size: Medium
Very comfortable and warm during the cold months. The neoprene keeps you hands warm while sticking it in icy cold waters. The stitching seems more sturdier than the Bass Pro version. It's a little bulky while fishing at times. The precurved fingers helps a bit with the bending. Being able to pull back the index finger and thumbs is a great help, but the Velcro that keeps them in place can be difficult to keep them attached. I wish the Velcro was a little bigger or stronger. ... show more

  • Fishing for days
Size: Large
Although I did return the gloves, the reason why was actually funny. I bought this for my father for Christmas because he loves fishing. He tried on the gloves and they fit perfectly. However, the problem was that he had these gloves! So I had to return them. But, he says that the gloves are the best ones he has and he loves them. The only problem he has is that they eventually start to feel a little wierd after wearing them after a long time. ... show more
