This Ginkin water filter is very compact, sturdy, and user-friendly. It will filter up to 793 gallons of water. It also uses a hand pump, as opposed to a straw system; straw-like emergency filters work by drawing water through them using suction from your mouth. Some people are unable to use the straw filters because of health or other issues. I purchased two of the Ginkin water filter pumps recently after seeing that a severe cold snap in Texas also resulted in a large amount of people cut off from clean water for several days. It came well-packaged as you can see in the picture. As far as I can visually tell, each piece appears to be made well. I bought it in preparation for my very first backpacking trip that I'm doing with my friend this spring. There were a lot more pieces than I expected, and as a newbie, I find it a little intimidating to put them all together, but that's just my lack of experience. Similarly I'm nervous about my first backpacking trip. Hopefully this thing will save my life out there. If I come back alive, I'll report back on its field performance. Perfect for what I needed. Put this in my "go bag" and it's large enough to handle a good volume of water but still compact enough to fit into a bag where space is at a premium. Quality seems very solid, came with a great collapsible water container as well.
