  • A Solid Mid-Tier Board
Processor Description: B550 Size: B550M AORUS PRO-P Style: Bundle
Ever since I made the jump to Zen 3 coming from Zen (1), I’ve seen it deliver the performance I need for high refresh rate gaming in 1440p. However, that’s not entirely the point of this motherboard. I’ll cut to the chase: This has most of the features that I need in a motherboard. But it is not without its quirks. The good things about this motherboard are, as most B550 chipset motherboards would have it, the build quality is significantly higher, there is probably better cooling for MOSFETs and chokes, and better memory compatibility. However, there are some people who refute that the fancy “heatsinks” shown on this motherboard barely do much of any cooling, and that is probably very true. However, I am not doing any sort of overclocking, nor am I using PBO2, to even see any real difference, so I have no authority to prove them wrong. Also, it just works. But with this motherboard in mind, I have just enough I/O to use the most basic amenities plus others I need hooked up to the PC, such as my webcam and UPS, with a bit more USB ports to add other extras, such as a HOTAS joystick. On top of that, it has currently *more than enough* SATA ports to accommodate for my SATA drives (including DVD drive). It is capable of supporting a rather toasty Ryzen 7 5800X, and has the required PCIe guard to support larger, heavier graphics cards or other PCIe x16 cards (by maximum). Also, most headers are well-positioned, which is a great thing. Now, what are some of its cons? The issues involve the most recent BIOS update where it ties itself to Windows 10’s Power Plans (the software feature is present since the Windows XP days), so trying to make changes to PBO2, and automatic over/undervolting and overclocking limitations somewhat proved to be just pulling hairs at that point. It is a mere inconvenience, but not “game-breaking”. Another con is they have the rearmost fan header positioned with the 8-pin EPS (CPU) header, which makes connecting your rear exhaust fan very cumbersome. It’s also worth mentioning that they moved the USB 3.0 header towards the bottom of the motherboard, which translates into serious clearance issues if you’re using a graphics card that is at least three slots deep, especially in the intended mATX case you planned on building in. However, if you’re not using a megahunk of graphics power and cooling (e.g. a graphics card that is no more than 2 – 2.25 slots deep), this will end up being a tiny gripe. Another con is just… I know it’s integrated audio, but this is one of the corners Gigabyte really cut on. The integrated audio (codec) isn’t awful, but it’s kind of a letdown considering I did not have enough room for a Sound Blaster card that I had been using (and honestly have been *spoiled* by). The overall audio quality is basically mid. However, I have recently researched that the audio codec/chip it uses is basically entry level for a surround sound setup. The drivers for it are really just basic; it doesn’t have features that are almost just as similar to Sound Blaster’s drivers, which I now dearly miss. However, once I upgrade to a future graphics card that only takes up no more than two slots without it nearly burning to death, that will no longer be an issue. But if you’re not all that picky on audio, then perhaps this paragraph doesn’t apply to you. As of now, however, I use a third-party EQ that somewhat does the trick, but I find some things about it that are kind of loopy that may be amplified (no pun intended) by the chip itself, but that is beyond the scope of this review. On top of that, pricing isn't terrible. But I really recommend getting it at a significantly discounted price: that being, if it's at least 25% - 30% off. Pictured below are some of the general and detail photographs of my current PC using this exact motherboard, with probably some of the largest components money can buy—and yet you can still have just enough room with this motherboard to operate, breathe, and sometimes even work in whenever you’re about to upgrade or change something out. Just know that in general, if you’re using a taller, wider cooler and larger graphics card like the ones pictured in here, you will have to use a flathead screwdriver in order to remove your graphics card, and that you may have to squeeze a little to make it all work. ... show more

  • Good board so far
Processor Description: B550 Size: B550 AORUS PRO AC Style: Bundle
This board is working good now but had few issues at first. Want to go over these as it may help someone installing windows 11. We used windows 11 pro so tpm had to be enabled in bios before it would load. After, windows 11 installed fine but would blue screen when the computer was at idle. Enabling dummy load in bios fixed this issue. next problem was usb ports were disconnecting during gaming (rdr2). Uninstalling all the drivers that we installed from the gigabyte support site fixed the usb disconnect issue. If you install windows 11 on this mb just use the drivers windows 11 installs and give that a try first.. I gave it 4 stars due to the issue of Gigabyte's RGB fusion interfering with the corsair ram rgb lighting after xmp profile in bios was enabled. However icue worked fine with the corsair h150i aio and the extra corsair fans we installed. • Really good starter board, but you might want to get the v2
Processor Description: B550 Size: B550 AORUS ELITE Style: Bundle
As I was building my computer, I was needing a good board for cheap with a good io. This motherboard was amazing for actually getting off the ground, it has all of the necessary ports i needed (Two monitors, 8 usb ports, and front 3.0 and 2.0. Although, as i started to look for new cases, I realized that there was no usb-c for the front. Resulting in my final decision to get an x570, of course when i can afford it. The usability on this board is absolutely amazing, with the m.2 and pcie slots. it was super easy for me to do the bios update on this board, and I actually had it posted before i updated it. So my advice to you is to not worry about all the people complaining about "Dead On Arrival" or "Crappy bios" which you will almost NEVER need to access unless you're doing basic setup things, and you could probably just look up a youtube tutorial on. If you've got a little more money, get one that's future proof . But if youre on a budget, get it. ... show more
